Good, Flexible Work

Pros

You choose your schedule. There is no minimum or maximum hours per week or month. Once you get the hang of it (give 6 months or so) it’s really easy with little to no prep time. Your days are free to work another job or be a SAHM or sleep. My bookings have always been decent.

Cons

The hours can be rough and the more classes you want to teach, the earlier you are going to have to get up, or the later you have to teach at night. Tech on your end or theirs will inevitably go wrong and they aren’t forgiving at all. If you can’t get into your class for whatever reason they mark you as a no show and charge you $10. That’s on top of not being paid for the class. They will tell you to send a ticket, but I’ve only had 1 out of 4 of those excused. It’s frustrating and causes a lot of stress. That said, I suppose missing 4 classes in 3 years isn’t terrible, but there is a limit of 6 per contract before you are reviewed and possibly fired. The pay used to be better. They lowered pay for existing contractors, but expect the same work. You can also expect a decent amount of unpaid time to prepare, certify to teach classes, and take workshops.

Pros

You set hours and times to teach. Curriculum is provided. Early morning times & evening if in the USA so hours are mostly during non working hours. Only need a reliable computer and internet access. Work from home! They provide a lot of educational help to assist teachers.

Cons

Difficult to know what to expect when first starting. I highly recommend having a friend or mentor to help with hiring process and practicing for your first few classes. Difficult to directly communicate with the company (they are in China & I am in the USA)

Cons

Genuine cancellations can be difficult to obtain because some have abused the policy Incentive payments for classes have changed Communication about issues via ‘tickets’ with personnel in China can be challenging

They're taking advantage of teachers to make more money

Pros

Consistent schedule I guess, the students keep booking you.

Cons

They keep reducing the hourly rate, and unless you're an experienced teacher of +2 years that's teaching more than 91 classes a month, your pay basically is in the lowest tier and won't change.

Flexible online teaching option

Business Outlook

Pros

With a fast internet connection speed, you can teach from anywhere and set your own schedule.

Cons

They have recently cut their pay for teachers but it is still a good online employment option for teachers that allows quite a bit of flexibility. The more classes you teach, the more you make per class but parents or LPs book the classes so teachers have little control over the number of classes booked each month.

Pros

I love helping the children of the 21st Century. The hours are flexible to my schedule. I never have to leave home. It is fun and easy. The entire platform is set up for huge success.

Cons

You must have great internet and equipment. The hours which have the most classes can be tiring because of the global hours you may experience overnights on Friday or Saturday.
