While a low stress nursing job, management makes it high stress. From my very first day and onward, I was met with hostility. It is not a welcoming environment and the work culture is hostile. This is 1000% due to the culture that management creates focusing more on intimidating their employees than supporting them. Hospice is an emotionally taxing industry to be in and other hospice companies I have worked at make sure they are emotionally supporting their nurses and my managers have been amazing and so lovely to interact with. That was not the case at VITAS. To have a hostile work environment on top of working in the field of death and dying was unbearable for me personally. Also most of management is non clinical. The nurses, physicians and social workers in the company were great however. Physicians loved to teach and were approachable which was great.
