Pros

VITAS was once a hospice leader with a strong hospice CEO. When Chemed replace the CEO with the head of Roto-Rooter, the drain cleaner...that is when "sh*t got real" There are many compassionate people who work for VITAS, they give people their start in the industry and then they typically move on to more supportive hospice cultures.

Cons

All that has gone wrong in the hospice movement...you will find it here! Greedy non-hospice CEO! There are no career paths for chaplains because if chaplains find out about your awful practices...you will be called out...you are right! "Laborers" are a tool for leaders who get bonuses for keeping patients who don't need hospice...on their services. CMS once you get your 75 million back that they stole...end this dehumanizing mess

Pros

If you work overtime they provide an incentive

Cons

I thought working here would be great but turns out I was horribly wrong. Every time I come to work I know there’s going to be drama with staffing. Vitas claims to have nurses available 24/7 but that is a lie. Especially overnight. You have families and doctors upset when you can’t provide a nurse to go out but it’s not your fault. Vitas needs to stop with the false advertisement. Management is so rude as well and unprofessional. You literally have to back track everything you do and document throughly because they will blame you for their mistakes. It’s sickening. Also, the nurses (from vitas) who call in the reports are rude as ever too. You have a few kind ones but the rest are awful. The Vitas Reps that call in are over the top and annoying as well. Oh, and we’re always short staffed. We have lost so much staff since I started and haven’t replaced half. It’s so sad. You deal with emotional families who expect what we said we would provide. We can’t provide quality care because Vitas employees are constantly quitting/ getting fired for stupid reasons. I would advise you not to work here. They also tell you there’s room to grow but won’t promote or move you due to short staffing. This company is a lie.

Pros

I love being in hospice and helping families. We have amazing services unlike any other hospice company. Our nurses, social workers, home health aides, chaplains, etc are all amazing and I am so proud of all of them.

Cons

No holidays or sick days! Shocking and I never thought to ask since I have always had them. Yes, we get 15 days of PTO but I used them to take off on Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. They also continually encourage us to work the weekends and even when I don’t really want to I often don’t have a choice since my accounts and office keep emailing me. So, needless to say there is high burnout since we don’t have enough down time. The benefits are also terrible and you are not eligible until after 90 days. There is a 401k match but at .25 on the dollar I put in and again not until after 90 days.
