VCH was a very rewarding place to work. Long hours, but that is true of any hospital

Pros

Connection with the patients is outstanding -- VCH provides a lot of support for both children and their families, especially during difficult times. Great community atmosphere

Cons

Seems to be a difficult time of transition for the hospital at the moment. A lot of turn over in senior management that seems to have upset staff

Pros

Tuition benefit especially for children, many perks and discounts, insurance is pretty good but expensive, there are lots of learning opportunities if you are able to attend them.

Cons

You have to know someone to progress. It is even hard to transfer to another department unless you know someone with influence. Their dental insurance is unbelievably bad and super expensive.

Good labs, great people, good environment

Pros

There is a plethora of labs to choose from. Many of which are pretty good, but even fewer are really great. There are lots of other benefits that come with being at Vanderbilt University outside of the science.

Cons

There's not much to say that is really bad about the place. I enjoyed my time there. I don't like how slow the science is, but I think this is something inherit in academia.
