Pros

You are working on a pretty incredible product that has positive impact globally

Cons

There is this holdover culture from the early startup days when employees had to work crazy hours - even though we are late stage, people are still pulling late nights consistently. Management sends messages at all times of day with no acknowledgement of boundaries between work and personal lives. Often, the late night work is not necessary but is perpetuated by the early joiners who impose it on the rest of their team. This creates a toxic work culture, especially in a remote world where boundaries are more important than ever. Also there is no built in performance evaluation. The managers take no stake in the success of their subordinates and the path to career advancement is not clear

Pros

During my time at Via I learned a tremendous amount of new skills and tools in a relatively short period of time, gained valuable experience, and met some select co-workers whose friendship and guidance I'm so grateful for.

Cons

Unsupporting leadership - While there are some exceptional managers still at the company, a large portion often of them throw loads of unrealistic workloads at you without providing any mentoring/direction. We want to rise to the occasion and take action, but it’s a responsibility of the higher up management of the team to provide concise direction and mentorship so that your employees can blossom to the next level. LACK OF COMMUNICATION: There can be the opportunity to grow, which is great in theory, but it’s a constant cycle of never knowing when your next raise is, no annual reviews, no salary reviews, and not knowing exactly what your title is.

Pros

Nice office with unlimited snacks, good people (if you are on the right team), work feels somewhat impactful, biggest player in microtransit right now

Cons

I'm glad NY passed a pay transparency law so that people can finally see how Via underpays its employees - people usually end up leaving and getting a good 30-50% more than what they were getting. There is no annual performance review so you never know how you are doing until someone just tells you - in which case it could be months or even years after you joined. For a 10-year old company this large, I question why there is no annual performance review in place.
