Don't believe the hype

Pros

Good coworkers, positive mission, pretty good benefits.

Cons

Firstly, do not trust the 5 star reviews you see here. They are being pushed by the recruitment team to bolster the overall company score. Secondly, Virta is just like any company - there are good things and there are bad things. The interesting thing is, Virta leadership does not want to do anything about the bad things. They either do not think the bad things are really bad things, or they care too much about other things (money) to fix the bad things. There are a lot of egos in leadership who refuse to believe they could do anything wrong, so any complaints are dismissed as "noise" and no amount of escalation moves the needle. Thirdly, if you are a member of the Health Coach team you know how utterly toxic the leadership is. They are clueless when it comes to leadership, but because they are protected by the COO and CEO, nothing will ever happen. They have confronted and yelled at employees on more than one occasion (and this is IN PERSON while others can see/hear), they bulldoze anyone who dares to have an opinion unlike their own, they talk over you to get their point across, they refuse to listen to you if they doesn't think what you're saying lines up with their thoughts, and they shut down any ideas that are not their own. They will (and have) gone straight to the COO to complain until they gets her way. They have literally told people they always get what they want, and they will use their power to do it (it does not help that we have a lot of weak leaders who will cave to demands). Trust me when I say that most people do not enjoy their interactions with them - and this is across all functions - their own team, product, engineering, other clinical departments, legal, hr - etc. You'll find it difficult to find one person who would describe them as pleasant. It is sad that the leadership on one of the biggest teams in the company is without one iota of leadership sensibilities. They are the opposite of "people first" which is one of Virta's core values. It's really very sad to see them wield their power the way they do.

Benefits are great, company culture is not

Pros

Working from home and benefits

Cons

Company culture over the past year has completely tanked. There are countless small teams that employees and managers do not hold their weight and are somehow able to fly under the radar without consequence. Associate managers are just overwhelmed, some teams are completely overworked and some I am convinced just have a fake job title and do not contribute. Upper management is blissfully unaware of so many issues across many teams. Bringing issues to management is a waste of breath. Our bonus structure is nonsensical and does not reward those going above and beyond their job description, it is random and even managers admit it is random. We’re so busy putting out fires that we can’t even focus on huge issues within our teams and the teams we work with.
