Pros
The students are incredible, resilient, and so loving.
Cons
I ignored the reviews when I decided to take the position at Voices and I deeply regret doing so. Working at Voices was the worst experience I ever had. The Executive directors are so unhelpful and they do not know how to run any of the schools. There is currently no CEO because the organizational chaos drove her out, one of the schools does not even have a building, some schools were without a principal for majority of the year this past year, and students do not have their basic needs met. They have no system or structure in place in terms of salary year to year and they decide who gets a raise based on likability or to bribe you to stay. This organization has been protested against by families, students, and community members. There has been a petition created against leadership. Employees have submitted countless of HR complaints which have led them to get fired for speaking out. Employees sent a request for support to the Board of Directors this year with many signatures from different schools and the BOD was very unhelpful since nothing came out of this except for more employees getting fired as retaliation. The teachers and staff working on sites have taken on so much because of the vacancies throughout the sites, the lack of support network-wide, and because they do care about their students. Work hours are advertised from 7:45am-4:15pm but in reality it is 7:30am-5:00pm, sometimes later for teachers since they get no planning time. They have one hour of "prep" during the day but they expect them to be in meetings during that hour. Many of the buildings are old and unsafe for students, yet nothing is done about it because who knows where the money is actually going. No training is provided for any position and staff is gaslit when they try to learn their roles and duties. This organization is failing students; instead of increasing academic proficiency, the gaps are becoming larger and larger for them. Take a look at the number of reviews posted within this last year, we are trying to warn you!
