Pros

-Great coworkers: I worked with some really nice, fun, interesting people. I genuinely liked almost everybody in my department. When the workload wasn't too heavy it felt like hanging out with friends. -Nice workspace: The building on United is a comfortable work environment. It's open and lends itself well to collaboration. You never have trouble finding who you're looking for. It doesn't really have an office vibe; more like a big, high-tech clubhouse. Great gameroom and kitchen areas. -Opportunity to learn quickly: At Volusion, you can quickly go from having intermediate computer skills to understanding or mastering many concepts, such as DNS, HTML, API, CSS, Quickbooks, SEO, etc., as well as taking customer service skills from nonexistent to mastery.

Cons

-You will learn so much so quickly that your knowledge will be way more valued at another company within a year of starting at Volusion. Unfortunately, there are neither the opportunities, nor the financial resources to go along with the increased skill-set. Volusion is essentially a training ground to go get a better job. This leads to high turnover and constantly training new people, revolving door style. During my time with Volusion, it was clear to me that I was very replaceable. Expect to work hard for a year for a shot at a twenty cent per hour raise. -Employees are recognized based on hitting numbers rather than the quality of help offered to customers. Management would prefer you knock 3 calls out of the queue in 30 minutes only partially helping the customer, as opposed to one thirty minute call which solves multiple issues. There is an effort to change this by the department director, but numbers are still the key metric. -The software was worse than I left than it was when I started. Expect to see redesigns to areas that don't need it, while glaring issues and bugs go unfixed. Management doesn't listen, and it's the customer who suffers. -Aggressive policies that upset customers, overcharge them, have them jumping through hoops, etc. And then it will be up to you to smooth things over or take the verbal beating.

Pros

1.Your asking for Pros? 2.Your kidding right?

Cons

It would take me years to list everything, then they have all these employees not in tech support post all these great reviews. Why not encourage people in support to write positive reviews? I will tell you why------positive reviews on the whole in the support dept are nothing more than illusion. Now of course the suck ups could do it but you would have far more negative reviews than positive ones. I mean I would like to ask HR how many people have come through the revolving door at the front of the building when hired for tech support. To sum it up - worst management in the corporate world, hands down, the pay is lower then cleaning horse stalls(not kidding),oppressive hours--forget about having holidays off to enjoy family, customer base with the intelligence level of a block of wood. Oh yeah also the sales dept lies to customers everyday and then the support dept gets to take all the fall out. If you like transparency in the company you work for---steer clear of this place. If Volusion is not failing, Volusion is not trying.

Volusion Response

Volusion encourages all forms of feedback, even negative. Without honest reviews we would not be able to address important issues like those listed above. Employee feedback is extremely valuable in helping us be a Top Workplace. Our support team’s role is crucial in providing generous assistance for customers that might lack technical aptitude – this is evident by many appreciative customer reviews.

Pros

I am going on two years here at Volusion. While each department has its ups and downs and growing pains, each of the employees here feel like family. Hard work is always rewarded and managers are good at ramping up team members. The vibe is positive and laid back. Management has a very human feel to it - they value your feedback and criticism. They are always sending out happiness surveys and most often implement suggestions and changes brought up by employees. You can tell they really care about their employees and value happiness and a healthy work/life balance over the company's bottom line. I've worked for lots of other companies who didn't make this a priority and I was a miserable wreck. It is such a joy to come to work and put out a great product for a company that truly values its members instead of feeling like we're a part of a big machine. The leadership here has great vision for the company and they are making excellent strides in keeping competitive in the market. Lots of perks like Beer Fridays, Bring your Dog to Work days, chair massages, bingo swag prizes, free ice cream, free yoga and fitness classes, work from home for qualified employees, referral bonuses, free educational classes and conferences (like An Event Apart, SXSW, DrupalCon, etc), healthcare on day ONE and a generous 401(k). HR (People and Culture Team) is always on the ball, making sure our needs are met. They go a step above and beyond with fun company outings, parties, events, celebrations and team building events that boost morale.

Cons

The salary is slightly under what the market currently offers for some positions. However, there are often bonuses and other perks that help make up the difference. The company isn't perfect and at times they have pushed out lower-quality product updates to meet arbitrary deadlines. On a positive note, the backlash we experienced as a result of this has forced us to put better measures in place and I believe many of our services are more improved now for the lessons learned. The company is divided between two buildings, mostly due to the explosive growth we've experienced in the last two years. This puts a strain on some teams who are split up and are still expected to work together.
