Pros

Towers provides opportunities for associates to work in a high paced, professional, and exciting environment. Individuals interested in working with bright, articulate, and curious colleagues will thrive in this environment.

Cons

There is no doubt that part of our culture is delivering outstanding customer service and this requires long days. At certain points in the year, 12 hour days are very common.

Pros

Very strong and innovative company. The individual talent they attract and retain is top notch in my experience. I fully expect their market share to grow. My local office is a fun, tight-knit group that loves working together.

Cons

Benefits consulting can suffer from an unpredictable cycle in terms of revenue and the work hours required to fulfill client needs. Often the office is overwhelmed, but there is a reluctance to hire because the work wave is temporarily driven by market conditions or legislative changes impacting benefits. This hurts work-life balance and can lead to turnover which does not help. Actuarial program is very stingy. The compensation is okay relative to other actuarial companies, but you get kicked out of the program if you do not pass exams within 12 months. This is a struggle when exams are offered once or twice a year. Getting back into the program is an uphill climb requiring two passes without exam support.

Pros

Smart people, very high work quality standard, respect among clients and other consulting firms, genuine interest among managers to help people succeed

Cons

- work/life balance is nonexistent. There has been a major turnover problem lately at the analyst level, which means more work gets dumped on the analysts who stay. Staying at work late has become the norm - even though managers do try to help people succeed, promotions are not always merit based. It is still very much about who like you instead of just how good your work is and how many exams you have passed. Also, very difficult to get to consultant level since they need people to stay analysts to do the grunt work. - if you are in need of visa sponsorship, be VERY careful. I have seen it among many coworkers who were promised of a green card, only to have the process getting delayed one time after another since the company drags its feet. Many people ride out both of their H-1B before a green card is started, causing them to being stuck with the company for 6+ years, or to quit to go to school - pay starts out good but eventually does not keep up with market price - benefits keep getting cut
