The other teachers are great.

Cons

Mistreated constantly, overworked, underpaid, not allowed to teach, it's all about the test, students are merely data points and teachers who teach to the test drive students to hate school. Over and over the county took advantage of teachers and allowed principals to take advantage of loop holes in contracts such as the working day is over only "until your duties end". WCPSS killed the joy of teaching for me and I finally left after 10 years and giving my soul to them. Now in the private sector my family finally gets some of my time and I make more money. I miss teaching, but they scripted it all and made everyone the same anyway so it was not longer enjoyable.

Teachers throughout the district are awesome! Lots of great kids in the schools.

Cons

They must be desperate for principals. I encountered some of the worst school leadership I have ever seen while there. I know of one who had multiple grievances filed against by teachers, staff, and even the parent of a student he verbally assaulted and yet he still has a job. There is a huge turn over of teachers throughout the district, and I know at the school I was at, most were leaving because of what a vial human being they have for a principal.

Lengthy time off and decent benefits.

Cons

Very little support. Very challenging students and colleagues. The pay is awful and the state of NC has a very bad situation with its government. Students get away with a lot with no recourse and teachers have too many students in pretty poor working conditions. If I hadn't started teaching decades ago, I wouldn't be doing it. I definitely would not recommend young people to go into this profession in its current iteration.
