Good People, Broken Management

Pros

Some excellent employees positioned in various departments. Smart, helpful, hard-working people who make the office bearable. My sole regret of no longer working there is the connection I made with some of them. A good place to learn new tech skills and build experience. Free coffee, snacks & drinks.

Cons

The CEO is disorganized, and is too busy pursuing "the next big thing" to provide a cohesive vision or identity. Very poor communication between Sales and Implementation, which leads to ugly client hand-offs and unrealistic expectations, timelines & budgets. Lack of efficient planning in Development leads to over-worked developers jumping from fire to fire. The company is staying afloat due to one "big fish" client, but is too bogged down maintaining their legacy code to remain competitive for the future. Bad benefits - default flex time is 3 days over the first 6 months, or 5 days over an entire year. A workaholic culture. Several managers would tell stories about times they took client calls while on honeymoon, and even while in labor as points of pride. Extremely high turnover for a company so small (me leaving made it 10 people in 8 months). You could be working with someone in the morning, and find out they disappear in the afternoon. You get a single sentence email from management saying they're gone. No one talks about it, and colleagues are left to pick up the pieces. The company is aware they have a "glassdoor problem", which is why so many current employees have recently provided reviews. I have a good idea who wrote many of them (and I'm sure they can identify me), and I wonder if their reviews would change if they had more anonymity.

Frustrating and stressful place to work

Pros

Free beverages and healthy snacks like fruit and cereal bars. Your birthday is a paid day off. Eligible for profit-sharing type of program after 2 years of employment. Casual dress code.

Cons

Communication between upper management and employees is sorely lacking. The quality and amount of training that new employees receive is inconsistent; in some cases non-existent. Unrealistic expectations in terms of workload and deadlines. Mixed messages from leadership in terms of what the priorities are. Leadership is slow to respond to concerns expressed by employees about business practices. Working environment often had a feel of barely-controlled chaos.

Thank you for your feedback. We are a fast paced environment which can feel chaotic at times and the rush to meet deadlines can be stressful. We encourage team members to take time off to recharge. We will continue to improve new employee training; at times, on-the-job training has been relied on too heavily. We will also work harder at giving team members a better view into the big picture / strategic plans.

Pros

Free food and soda. Never boring. Also flexible schedule and can work remotely. Great work experience.

Cons

Overworked, underpaid, little PTO, toxic environment where management yells and stresses everyone out. Negative atmosphere. Management is not open to new ideas. Very high turnover rate.

Thank you for your feedback. We're proud of all our team members and their passion for excellence. At times, this passion has led to spirited discussions. We will work harder to encourage positive communication.
