Pros
I have worked at WebPT for the past 3 years. I was the 30th Employee to be hired. I have never worked for a startup before, so it was an exciting adventure to start with such a young company. I had great confidence in the success and growth of WebPT because of the solid foundation the company had, and still has. Both founders, Brad and Heidi, are experts in their respective fields of IT and Physical Therapy. That is a winning combination.
I started in the Integration department and two years later I was given the opportunity to migrate to the development team. I have been trusted with unique projects that have given me huge opportunities to expand my IT skill set, while making real contributions to the company. I am not micromanaged. Thank goodness.
Rapid growth for any company is a huge challenge. We are almost 10 times bigger in the number of employees than when I first started. Think about that, 30 employees 3 years ago, and now almost 300!
I have taken a very thorough and honest look at my employment at WebPT and I've decided that I want to continue working there. I see myself celebrating my 10 year anniversary at WebPT some day.
The CEO, Paul Winnandy, is exceptionally bright and has an incredible vision for where WebPT is going. And I work with the most talented people, by far, that I have ever worked with.
It is no accident that WebPT is so successful. Look at the product. Go to the website and review what has been created in such a short period of time. That product did not grow on some tree. It was created by very dedicated, talented, exceptional people.
I want to respond to a recent review that I feel was negative.
First of all, Brad and Heidi are NOT untrusting or paranoid. I believe that is a harsh, undeserved criticism. I am not micromanaged in my projects. And I feel that there is a correct balance of open, honest communication, while also, maintaining necessary building and network and data security. How is that untrusting or paranoid? OF COURSE WE HAVE BUILDING ACCESS CONTROL!!! It would be incredibly foolish NOT TO!!! We are very serious about keeping our member's data secure and it would be insane not to require employees to use their personal access to enter the building. If you were the owner of a company, would you allow strangers to wander through the offices and hallways of your building!? Of course not.
Another criticism was that managers "spy on emails." How would that employee know? And even if emails were monitored, (which is perfectly normal and legal and wise for any company to do), why would that be a problem? Every email sent or received at any job in America is part of a company's workflow and is well within the right of any company to monitor. We sign an agreement when starting at WebPT that our emails are subject to review. So, the employee who claimed that emails are "spied on" would have to have signed the same agreement. This is the same type of agreement signed by tens of thousands of employees all across the nation in various corporations. To use the term "spy on" is an inaccurate, and I believe unfair caricature of the management at WebPT. Again, if you were the owner of a company, wouldn't you be careful to protect the integrity of your own company?
Sub standard pay? I get paid tens of thousands of dollars more at WebPT than I did at my previous IT job where I had been a dedicated employee for 8 solid years. I am paid far more at WebPT than any job I have ever had. And I am rewarded with annual salary increases.
"Nepotism" and "toxic" were other words used in the recent negative review. I disagree with those statements. I have been hired and promoted solely on merit. I work hard and have an excellent work ethic. And I've been rewarded accordingly.
Of course there are the normal adjustments to various personalities and various communication styles. But at the same time, people are also getting used to, and adjusting to my quirky human traits. Those are perfectly normal interpersonal challenges.
Summary: If you have an excellent work ethic, are self-motivated and mature, and you want to make a great contribution to a great company, then please consider WebPT as your next career move.
Cons
I don't like the commute, but WebPT is centrally located in downtown Phoenix, so it is in an ideal location considering that WebPT employees commute from all over the valley.
