Good Company? Not in California

Pros

Good Pay, pretty good benefits

Cons

Micromanagement, inexperienced and petty regional staff. Regional staff is very disrespectful to site personnel. Regional staff is very inexperienced and therefore very insecure and petty in their dealings with people that know more and have more experience. Retaliation for perceived wrongs or disagreeing with the regional staff is common place. Corporate VPs do not even speak to the site staff so the only view they get is that given by the regional staff. Lies and cover ups abound in the California region. Regional staff puts unrealistic goals on the site staff and then micromanages them to the point of failure. Guess who gets blamed for things going badly? Comparing 5 and 6 hundred unit properties to 100 unit properties is beyond ridiculous. It just shows how little the regional staff understands about assessing the needs of a community. The drive for more profit is reducing staff and stressing remaining staff. Regional staff is unresponsive and unsympathetic. They do not want to hear about the trouble the site staff is having. I have never worked for a more unprofessional group of people. The lack of integrity and honesty is appalling.

Pros

The dental and health benefits are good. The residents are awesome usually as well. You can also transfer to different properties across the country easily.

Cons

- firstly, the pay is truly awful. You get $125 for a lease. I got 6 leases once, and made $750. I net the company over 300k in potential profit. You are required to be very grateful for this. I have years of experience and made $21/hour on top of that, but people usually start out at $19. Even with ‘commissions,’ it’s not a livable wage in Los Angeles. My friends who work in restaurants make what I did in 1 week. Take into consideration that you won’t simply be a leaser, you will have to do myriad of things that aren’t stated in the job description. You’ll burn out eventually. - I can’t even count the number of times I had to deal with violent homeless people which should never be our job. It’s literal danger. I also had to clean up after a homeless person’s bodily functions, it was terrible. - senior level management is very cliquey, and if you fall out of their favor, they will slowly push you out. If you don’t worship the ground they walk on and show your eternal gratitude, they will single you out. - I dealt with some issues and went to HR, but they were never addressed. They truly don’t care. It’s really disheartening. - I can’t list the amount of petty, discriminatory behavior I witnessed. Managers talking poorly about applicants who didn’t qualify, talking down about residents after they left, it was really unprofessional and mean-spirited.

Pros

No pros here unless you are a property manager or higher level

Cons

Everything. The pay is barely over minimum wage. Not a livable wage for the area that communities are in. So many property management companies are supporting pride month and Windsor has done nothing. Looking elsewhere for work to a place that shares more diverse values.
