Unequivocally the worst job I've ever had

Pros

-During your tenure, you'll likely get a luxury item you've always wanted for free with "Monopoly money" bonus points for their store, which you're expected to view as part of your salary.

Cons

-Constant turnover in leadership and changes to reporting structures result in fragile, if existent, support for middle management and ICs. Leaders are also untrained in people management at almost every level, leading to daily dysfunction and a lack of direction and strategy as managers scramble not to be "found out" as inexperienced and unequipped for their roles. -Measurable favoritism between leaders and employees, evidenced through a lack of equity in resource distribution, unequal investment in employee development, and discriminatory practices around wage and promotion cycles. -Workhuman prides itself on "psychological safety," when its culture is actually defined by chaos, disorganization, and poor planning. Do not expect their human resources team to be able to provide you with a job description for your role, even after years of employment, or a simple answer on who in the company you report to. -Salaries are tens of thousands of dollars under market value, and the benefits package is standard at best. Expect usage of highly-advertised fringe benefits to be denied through unclear and laughably disconnected "review processes."

Strong product, but culture and practices made it hard to stay

Pros

+ The platform itself is a real benefit. Using it internally lets you experience the product the same way customers do, and being able to redeem rewards for genuinely fun and meaningful items is a nice perk. + The product solves a real problem and, when it works well, delivers on its promise.

Cons

- Leadership often feels misaligned and reactive, with limited clarity or consistency. At times it is unclear who is steering the ship or where it is headed. - There are two very different types of leaders. Some are genuinely strong leaders who care deeply about people and want to do good work. Others lead from fear and insecurity, creating an environment where self-preservation outweighs collaboration. - That fear-based behavior is modeled at the top. The Chief of Staff and CHXO are clear examples of leaders whose approach sets a toxic tone for the broader organization, making cultural change extremely difficult. - Psychological safety is low, and many employees do not feel safe speaking up or offering dissenting perspectives. When they do, there are offen consequences. You have to be very careful who you confide in or share information with out of risk of saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. In my tenure I witnessed multiple examples of very strong performers being pushed out because they didn’t pander to certain status-driven executives - There is a notably high rate of turnover within Human Resources (among other teams). Given the company’s mission and market positioning, this should be viewed as a serious warning sign. - The hybrid work model feels rigid and out of touch with how people actually do their best work. Especially for a company called Work”human” - Compensation is well below industry averages, and there is little investment in professional development or career growth.

Thanks for sharing your perspective, and we genuinely wish you the very best in your next role. As a business, we continue to evolve our expectations of how we operate, with a stronger emphasis on accountability, clarity, and efficiency at every level. As we scale and mature as an enterprise organisation, this includes making deliberate choices about how we work together, how decisions are made, and how responsibility is owned across the business. One example of this is our hybrid working model, which reflects the standard approach across many enterprise environments and supports collaboration, execution, and shared accountability. We recognise that these evolving expectations, particularly around more accountable leadership and post-pandemic hybrid ways of working, won’t suit everyone. However, we believe they are necessary steps to support the long-term health, performance, and sustainability of the business. From a data perspective, our voluntary turnover remains strong relative to external tech benchmarks. In 2025, company-wide voluntary turnover was 9.5%, with HR at 10%. In areas where turnover is higher, such as engineering, levels remain well below market thresholds (which is 20-23% in Ireland!!!). We see this as a reflection of the many humans who continue to find purpose, opportunity, and positive experiences here We appreciate feedback, positive and critical, and remain committed to holding ourselves to high standards as we continue to evolve how we work and lead.
