Too much hierarchy and disconnected teams

Pros

The founders set this company up with a noble mission: giving people choice and the ability to learn anything they wanted. The value they provide in helping students find qualified teachers for one-on-one learning has proved itself out time after time. They also think very critically about their strategy and have made some very good calls over the past ten years as they've adjusted to a crowded education space (they have an excellent mobile app), This company also tries incredibly hard to have a good culture. The CEO and CTO (co-founders) are both incredibly bright and smart, and are visible everyday around the office. Subsidized lunch through Fooda is another perk. From the daily life standpoint, there was ample opportunity to learn new things on the job. Those who want to take on new skills are welcome to. For the most part, you also have access to anyone.

Cons

There is visible pressure from investors to push for the bottom line. The solution has been to take a higher cut from tutor earnings and add a surcharge to investors. To say the treatment of tutors is overlooked is a vast understatement, considering they are the companies most valuable marketing asset. The development team is huge, and I expect might have some bloat. Marketing leadership is questionable at best, and pushes itself too much onto other parts of the company while micro-managing highly qualified marketing directors and managers. WyzAnt's last year has seen an implementation of hierarchy which is unneccessary and disenfranchising. Leadership is out of touch with lower levels, which will make it hard for the company to get back to its legitimately genuine roots. Though I certainly hope they do as they have so much to offer. The aforementioned culture has been used to underpay people (while overpaying others).

Pros

The job itself is easy, co-workers are very nice, free snacks/full kitchen, good work/life balance.

Cons

Lack of accountability, favoritism of certain employees over others, lots of micromanagement.
