A Clown Show

Pros

Co-workers are diligent and intelligent individuals but a lot of them got laid off.

Cons

Pathetic leadership team...if you guys ever read this review, this is for you: Can you guys start to owe some of the responsibilities like some grown-up men? Or are you guys too fragile to talk about your own failures as top leaders of this company? You guys blamed everything you possibly can on other people - you destroyed the whole sales team, you put CTO as a scapegoat for high infra cost, and now you are complaining about finance ”can’t get the numbers right”??? But wait… let me back up a little bit here…hold on… Don't you meet with the Board every quarter for the past 5 years? Don't you read team reports and numbers every month? Don’t you talk to team leads via your 1x1s every week? How come that we only have several months left in our runway becomes a big surprise to you? How do you even have the courage to send out an email to every employee on New Year's Eve and still act like our Commander-in-Chief and keep blaming others for the dire situation? Sadly, Wyze is not your home as you claimed in your email, it is your Hollywood show with your lousy acting skills and you look like a clown. NPD is a mental health condition, go check before it is too late.

Pros

Upon random encounters on projects, you will meet people of kindred spirits, and cherish them because you will need each other to struggle through the terrible journey together because trauma bonding is a real thing here. Only join here when: 1. You have exhausted all other options elsewhere; 2. You need a visa sponsorship (and you will get lowballed on salaries) 3. You are a glutton for long work hours and not being valued or appreciated.

Cons

TL;DR: Please do not come here. If you have some time to read this and other honest reviews on Glassdoor (CTO asked people to submit 5-star reviews in group chats): 1. Wages - low and unequal. You all will be underpaid for the sweat and tears you put in and the effort you put forth. The salary increase % does not to even match the half of the national average inflation rate, the annual bonus is always delayed to the Q2 of the following year, no option refresh plans. 2. Leadership - horrendous. The CEO is a narcissist - if you are thinking "that's okay, leaders are all a bit into themselves, as long as the company is okay, it doesn't affect me, at least they are getting things done"...Well, he is also ignorant and incompetent, that is an enranging combination. His “jokes“to employees are very inappropriate, rude, and offensive. War references are always used (shallowly) in place of actual business strategies, it is extremely disturbing. Feedback to the management team is always ignored. The leadership is extremely inexperienced, awfully incapable, and completely clueless - the top level does not know how to empower the middle management, the pressure gets pushed down and no one wants to take the responsibility. The leadership cannot put their acts together professionally or ethically. 3. Transparency - zero. You will get no indication of where things are going with the company or what other teams are working on. Directions change constantly. It goes without saying that you need to be flexible when working at a start-up, but there is a threshold at which changes of directions become beyond ridiculous and destructive. 4. People Management - toxic. The “People’s Team” has zero influence on the top guys. Managers do not know how to lead or manage teams, no training is ever provided to the managers. 5. Career Path - nonexistent. People are dispensable and replaceable, and the leadership doesn't see anything wrong with it. Employees who choose to leave (and yes there is a Mass Exodus) "are not Wyze material" - no introspection whatsoever but this probably helps some top guys sleep better at night. 6. Work-Life Balance - absent. You are expected to work long hours, on weekends, and at late nights, the leadership thinks it’s normal and expected, but it is always about grinding the employees. This company is failing a big time, the culture is beyond toxic and suffocating, and the leadership never takes a moment to reflect on themselves - they blame everything on the external factors and employees for "being incapable”. If you have the slightest respect for yourself, do not come here.

Toxic leadership, abandoned company values, zero integrity

Pros

Opportunities to work with some talented, thoughtful individuals who are ready to make an impact and help the company transition from a startup to a company with more structure (although these people often get shut down)

Cons

Short sighted leadership team: “being friends with our customer” disappears immediately whenever it conflicts with an opportunity to make short term profit. Wyze does not invest in products, it’s all about launching cheap product that last long enough for the next “upgrade” to come out. Customer service team is thrown under the bus all the time even though the entire team work day in and day out to do what is right for the customer and makes business sense. Nepotism at its finest as well as unprofessional comments made by leaders on marketing team: Some departments heads misunderstand the referral system as a way to get your friends and family jobs fast. Marketing team leaders cover for each other, lack diversity, and promote white males buddies of their own. The same leaders show little respect to both internal and external people, talk down and interrupt women all the time. Inexperienced leadership with zero willingness to learn and reflect: People don’t magically become leaders and we are all inexperienced at some point. However, individuals who joined the company early on and got promoted with no qualification to become leaders continue to live in their bubble. Unwilling to listen to new hires with fresh take and feedback, focus on the busy work rather than spending time getting to the bottom of what’s going on. Put their direct reports in fire fighting mode and motivate the team with empty promises and swag. Clogged leadership pipeline: Department heads act like individual contributors, take over other people’s responsibilities because they themselves wants to be recognized. Managers are expected to hold a full time IC role and find another 8 hours a week to manage people. Very few leaders who are qualified to provide coaching and lift the talent up as the company grows. Bad leaders love to keep the “yes men/women”. Toxic culture pushes good people and leaders out: This company is losing people fast. The individuals who challenge the leadership team and provide honest feedback are all leaving after realizing that nothing will change unless major changes happen to the executive team. Former Amazon employees run around with copying the leadership principles created for a different company, business model, and most important that aligns with the strategies. A senior leader once share that they are interested in firing an employee with me in a 1:1 setting. I can not say this enough, DO NOT join Wyze. I would not wish the kind of traumatic experience I had on my worst enemy.
