Pros
Big impacts, nice people. Nothing else.
Cons
No respects to engineers. There are too many PMs who raise requests but not enough engineers who do the work. PMs can reach out to engineers directly and ask them to do various ad-hoc works even those are not in their scope. Company launches products so fasts (3-5 new products a year!) but there are not enough engineers who can handle so many new products launch! Everyone is working overtime on new features and new requirements to meet super tight deadlines for new product launch, no time to have a stop and think about long term plan or deal with the tech debt. So there are more and more tech debts and the backends crashed again and again. A lot of employees burnout and left. HRs and Leaderships tried to solve this problem, but no significant improvement. Yes we have longer PTO but we don’t have time to take days off because the tight deadlines. Yes we have JIRA and new workflows but PMs are still pinning you on Slack randomly without creating tickets. Some will even pin you in the evening, in weekends, during your vocation. Because of such bad work life balance and low compensation and no respects, so many employees have left. Even though leaderships haven’t take any efficient actions. Yes they raised our salary, you will get 5% increase when you get top tier ranking! Inflation now is 8% a year. I know someone from HR team may read this, may ask us to reach out to hr directly. But there’s nothing you can do to solve these problems. Fake good reviews can not make it easier to hire engineers and keep existing ones. The root cause of no respecting is that no one from the founders has a tech background so they can not see engineers’ values — so they don’t want to spend money to hire and pay really good engineers. (Founders have product backgrounds so they hire a lot PMs and launch products like crazy!. )And the company structure (shared tech team exposed to all products) made the problems even worse. No one wants to stay at a place where there is no respects, no wlb and get low paid. Even though people are nice here we don’t want to get burnouts and die for the job.
