I was really excited to work for the YWCA Harrisburg, because of the mission statement and type of work. Unfortunately my experience was that the YWCA has poor management that contributes to worker burnout, does not uphold its mission, and punishes employees. Employees are discouraged from talking to other employees about concerns or complaints. They have been told not to be friends. At the same time there is nepotism at this organization. Some of these concerns are as small but significant as not getting unpaid lunch break. Other concerns include being told to preform job duties that are outside my description, having inadequate training, safety concerns, need for self care, and having to perform other tasks so much so that there is not ample time to complete own work. There is little opportunity for growth. However, as they are a 501c3, feel free to search for their tax returns to learn more about the organization. The work environment is poor and punitive. There is a real lack of collaboration and willingness to listen to the ideas and expertise of employees. This organization is doing little to live by its mission or help clients beyond the minimum.
