Pros

Pros shared by other reviews on here are mostly accurate. Remote work option is great and you get the impression that the company plans on keeping it forever. Most coworkers are great and friendly. The culture around transparency, and ownership, and whatnot sounds like a bunch of word vomit but it's mostly nice. But really, the best pro in my opinion is that life is really great if you're good at the job. Now this can be a con which I'll expand upon in the con section, but the good side is this: if you fit the role you're hired for well, you'll not have to work as long, you'll honestly enjoy your work, and you'll get promoted/recognized most of the time. Starting pay isn't that high as some reviews may mention, but once you start getting promoted, your pay jumps pretty quickly, and for most roles you'll be able to get promoted in 12 months or less. To expand on the amount of work - since yipit has flexible work schedule and unlimited PTO, it is unclear how much you're expected to work (it ends up being you work as long as you want/need to), but for me personally, I only need to work 30 hours/week, but of course I tell everyone I work 40+ hrs ;)

Cons

Now the downsides. There aren't that many negative reviews on here, but the few that there are have a point. Working here can be rough on some people, which I've witnessed firsthand. A double edged sword of the company is that they try to be very meritocratic. If you're killing it, picking things up fast and accomplishing your tasks on time and whatnot, then you get rewarded in more ways than one. If you're struggling, for whatever reason, whether it be in your control or not, then you will probably feel bad. Not necessarily because your boss is bad or your team expects too much, but there is some degree of comparison among your peers that management does (the purpose of which is to be meritocratic) which definitely stresses people out. Obviously, this sucks, for many of the same reasons that capitalism sucks, but what can you do? I'm trying to reach a point where I'll have enough power to be able to change things from the inside and make yipit an even better company, but for now, you make do. Yipit can be better, but it's also a lot better than a bunch of other companies - I think I would prefer yipit to a company where there's nepotism and greedy bosses who never promote people who deserve it, and keep people in their same position regardless if they're really good or really bad at their job. High expectations is definitely accurate, which can feel like a big burden. If you are able to hit those high expectations, work AND life will feel great. If not, sink or swim you know? Some more honesty: there's a lot of different teams at yipit, and there's a variety of people who could be your boss/team members. That can lead to some not gelling well with either your boss or your teammates, which can make life at any job pretty miserable. Not much advice I can give here, obviously you hope that the company will have all perfect bosses who are understandable to everyone's background and personalities, but that's a hard ask of any company, not to give yipit a pass for having some less optimal bosses, because they definitely should keep striving to improve, but just some food for thought. You'll notice I gave Yipit 5 stars. I'll admit, I know it may seem like it isn't, especially if you're really worried about these concerns, but I think for the right people, Yipit can be a lifesaver. A company where you have most of the power in reaching career goals and raises, AND you can work remotely is a pretty sweet deal. I'm still glad I work here.

YipitData Response

At YipitData, it is our goal for everyone, as much as possible, to have a good experience here and, for you, we clearly fell short. Within our Sales organization, we take an iterative approach to better scaling our training program, sales processes, expectation setting, and the communication of each. As we continue to grow rapidly, we face many exciting challenges, but these challenges can sometimes result in gaps between identifying an issue and rolling out a successful solution. We invite feedback from our employees, no matter how constructive, and worry that you expressed frustrations while you were here, and were never given the guidance to solve issues or insight into what’s actively being done to solve them. Your review is a reminder that we must continually promote our ‘open door’ feedback culture to identify problems quickly and inform the team of upcoming changes often. We will work very hard to make sure others have the space to speak up and receive a great experience. Thank you for your feedback and your time working at YipitData.

Pros

TLDR Version: This place is the best. Much Longer Version: In the past, I had never really identified with a job to the point where I could say I was “proud” to work there. That would’ve felt inauthentic because, to me, a yob was just a yob—something that would allow me to live a fulfilling life outside of said job. Something that was a means to an end. After working at YipitData, I can say that I am genuinely proud of where I work and what we do as a company. I am also regularly inspired by the people I work with. Here, a culture of respect and transparency is cultivated from the very top of the organization—with our CEO, Vin. This is one of those seemingly elusive situations in life where the "trickle down” effect actually works as intended: Following his example, every other leader and employee at YipitData upholds a standard of respect, honesty, and ownership. I have had several experiences in interview settings where I’ll ask an interviewer what they like most about their job. Typically, their eyes glaze over and they’ll start to twitch as they respond "the people." This reaction belies their actual experience, and it is all too apparent that these are just words they’re conditioned/expected to say! Knowing how tired of a line this is, please trust that I would not bring this up unless it were genuinely true: The people at YipitData are outstanding. My experience has been that everyone is willing to help and support one another. Kindness is palpable here. Excellence abounds. Finally, and for fun, I’ll add that if you are a fan of Bobby Lee’s comedy (perhaps you listen to Bad Friends or Tiger Belly), you will know that there is a Korean binary that allows you to very simply make sense of people in this world. You are either 착해 (chakhae; good, kind-hearted) or you are 미워 (miwoe; an @$$). Everyone at YipitData is chakhae. No one is miwoe. And this is, of course, in addition to the fact that everyone is smart, competent, and talented. In other words, there are no brilliant jerks here. Bulleted Summary: --transparency: highly transparent company culture; mgmt informs all employees of company goals and next steps at weekly All Hands mtgs; CEO addresses pain points in receptive, vulnerable, and non-defensive manner --collaboration: managers and peers are helpful and teamwork-oriented; there is nothing cut-throat about working at YipitData; folks are always trying to understand what your career goals are and how they can help you achieve those goals --benefits: unlimited vacation days are a real thing here; employees are encouraged to take time for themselves and their families; no one will give you a hard time for prioritizing your well-being --remote work: Yipit grants flexibility around remote/hybrid work with a real effort to build camaraderie over Zoom and other platforms; we’re all connected despite being physically far away from each other All in all, five stars.

Cons

--fast-paced growth often means teams are overworked and/or require more staff; however, this is being addressed with more and more resources being devoted to achieving hiring goals --some roles' base compensation is below market rate, but this is understandable for a startup that offers stock-based compensation to every hire! (anyone interested in joining a startup should understand the potential risks and benefits before they join so that they can calibrate their expectations accordingly. at Yipit, there is SO much upside and potential; it is absolutely worth the few potential risks involved!)
