Much freedom, much cost

Pros

Great flexibility and freedom. Best benefits I've ever seen. Lovely community and fellowship between other field staff.

Cons

As with many massive organizations, the higher ups are quite disconnected from the people doing the fieldwork. As such, policy change is slow and difficult. This is a "mission-oriented" organization, but much of the power and influence comes from large donors with specific and rigid agendas (moral majority). Fundraising model makes it quite difficult from people of low socioeconomic background to actually last with a sustainable salary.

Cons

Racism in its ranks (up and down), gender discrimination and gender roles, lower pay for racial minorities with higher pay for whites.
