Not for everyone, but right for me

Pros

Out of the box thinking is not only encouraged, but required. Great group of smart, talented and motivated professionals. For the past 15+ years there have been very few telecom companies as innovative as Zayo. Future at Zayo has more potential then most others in telecom.

Cons

Pressure is very high. Never a dull moment, which could also be a pro... Employees can get warn out quickly. Constant change/reorgs can be distracting. If you aren't willing to take initiative probably not the place for you. Tough getting away from work. You will work during PTO, but only to avoid getting too far behind, not a requirement.

Great Folks - Poor Leadership

Pros

Working with some of the best tech folks in Austin. The culture is one of 'failure is not an option' and the team pulls together any time this seems even remotely likely. It's like a brotherhood. Everyone has everyone else's back, without question.

Cons

Reporting to CEO/CFO who are incompetent and distant from the actual business. The only two folks in the company who do not fall into the brotherhood.

I've been accused of things in the past but incompetence and distant are new. Same can be said for our CFO. Zayo is viewed as having a strong, deep, and capable team, and I believe this view is correct. We empower our people and give them a chance to succeed. Your vantage point is Austin. As you know, Zayo's Austin presence is new -- with a team that came to us via a recent Colo acquisition. I suspect it is hard to transition from a small and tight nit single-site colo company to being part of a larger organization. If you are interested in being part of us, I encourage you to get to know the broader Zayo team. You will find a lot of great people at all levels.

Toxic Environment

Pros

Able to work from home

Cons

Employment with Zayo is only a good option for those starting out wanting to learn and planning to get out after a year. The toxic environment is poisonous -- very long hours, complete disorganization, impossible stress, angry employees, high turnover. Zayo likes to move people within from job to job, so many do not know what they are doing because they're always "new." Not getting proper training complicates this tremendously. I have never seen a culture like this. Work/life balance is non-existent. Compensation is mediocre, and there are no yearly merit increases. There is a bare minimum of paid days off. No 401K match. In 2013, the CEO strongly encouraged employees to stuff the Glassdoor ballot box and write good reviews for him and Zayo. There were a flurry of them last spring. However, I advise anyone interested in employment with Zayo to consider the negative reviews very seriously.
