Pros

Amazing location, benefits, snacks, social events, etc. This is now the expectation of tech companies in Seattle, and they keep up. More importantly, a chance to be part of the most influential company within an industry is a great opportunity. Growth, multiple departments as opportunity for change and learning, future career-benefiting relationships. These and the friends you make are what keep you there at a certain point. There are many agents and brokers that see great success because of their advertising with Zillow Group. It really does work, when they work it.

Cons

The problem is with the man in charge of the sales organization. He does not align with the values of the company. He is dishonest. That's actually the nicest and most professional way that I can say it. While I was there, and since I left, I have watched him destroy the careers of, push out, and ridicule some of the most talented salespeople and sales leaders that I've worked with. I had many 1 on 1 conversations with him over the years that left me feeling sick to my stomach. The way he views and treats the people whom are "beneath him" is not representative of how the CEO thinks or operates. So many talented people have left within the past couple of years, but not him. It begs the question; what does he have on them? I have no idea why he hasn't been pushed out, but he's destroyed a great thing.

Thanks for your review. We appreciate everything you did for Zillow Group, and your recognition that our business works for agents and brokers. As the senior leader responsible for the sales team I take your feedback on leadership seriously, and while I am not exactly clear on which sales leader you are referring to, would welcome the opportunity to listen to any feedback you have. We are always looking to improve, and as we grow we continue to refine our approach and practices. Reach out to me at gregs@zillowgroup.com if you are open to a conversation.

Pros

lots of snacks and drinks

Cons

Management does not care about employees, only climbing the ladder. Having opinions or ideas outside of management is considered "negativity" and you will be blacklisted for outside thinking . Despite the ping pong tables it is VERY corporate. You are not valued. "Turn on the lights" is a core value yet the deceive their employees and their clients. Management is so drunk on the Zillow Kool Aid, they think they can treat employees terribly and no one will leave. DO NOT WORK HERE

Thank you for your feedback. I am disheartened to hear that your experience at ZG was not one you felt was supportive of you, nor your ideas. Zillow’s culture is one that promotes transparency and openness for everyone to be and feel heard. I appreciate your candor as we take each review seriously and learn from them in moving forward to demonstrate delivery on each of our core values. If you’d like to discuss further, I’m happy to jump on a call with you. My direct line is 720-509-8346.

Pros

-Benefits -Food (ie drinks, cereal, snacks). - Catered lunch twice a month at HQ but only to keep sales people hostage so they can bring in more revenue before the end of the month. -The people, but not everyone. It really depends on whether you have a good relationship with people and if you mutually respect and like each other.

Cons

- If you're an individual contributor at the company you are just a workhorse in upper management's eyes. Managers and leadership don't care about your well-being even though they say they do. They just want someone who is ambitious and eager to accomplish the task at hand but don't want someone too ambitious because then they'll feel threatened and the relationship will turn very sour. -As an individual contributor, your pay is terrible. Everyone complains about it but leadership doesn't do anything except say it's based on standard of living. - If you like the environment where you feel like a chicken with it's head cut off then this is the place for you. -If you like being told what to do, and be told, "you're empowered to speak up” but in actuality, no one cares what you have to say, because leaders already know what’s “right”, then this is the place for you. - If you’d rather discuss career development rather than actually be developed, then this will be the place for you. - It's extremely top down but again if you like that, then great. - Really think about this, and look at other companies’ glassdoor. Not often will you see leadership responding to EVERY review. But if you look at Zillow’s you’ll see that every review good or bad, has a comment. Doesn’t it make you wonder, does Zillow have something to hide and are they so concerned with their image that they need to have a rebuttal for every comment made, and why? Shouldn’t management be working to help their employees rather than spending their day reading reviews?

Thanks for your review – it is unfortunate to hear how you feel. We respond to every review on Glassdoor because we learn from every review so we can continue to get better. It is hard to tell from your review whether you still at Zillow, but regardless I would love to connect and discuss your perspectives @ dans@zillowgroup.com. We work hard to ensure our pay practices are competitive to the local market and equitable across internal peers. We don’t view employees as replaceable and have multiple channels, both public and anonymous, to answer questions and hear concerns. Listening and engaging directly with our employees is one of our core values and we are proud of the direct and transparent dialog we have daily at Zillow.
