Pros

I worked at Zonar for about 9 years. I started as a contractor and worked my way up to a senior manager, so there was definitely opportunities to advance within your career (at least before the "merger" with GPS Trackit). I got to work with amazingly talented people to solve complex problems that had a real impact on making our customers' lives easier and safer. Remote work was the norm since March of 2020, allowing for a good work / life balance without sacrificing collaboration.

Cons

Even before Zonar was purchased by GPS Trackit there were some major red flags. The workplace was occasionally hostile, and I personally experienced several instances of bullying by management. Senior leadership lacked a strategic vision beyond "increase revenue," and wanted to be everything to everyone. Product features were often forced to change due to contractual commitments made by Sales without considering existing roadmaps, hampering innovation and iterative improvement. Because every team was overburdened with work, product MVPs became the default final product. Teams were forced to move on to the next thing, rather than improving what had previously been released. Design was always an afterthought, and was frequently left out of decision making processes. Even just ensuring designers were included in roadmap planning was a fight. The new CEO seemed dismissive of concerns, and GPS Trackit senior leadership ignored my team's attempts to work with them during the transition.

Great Company That has Lost Its Way

Pros

Like a previous review, the pros I am sharing are regarding the "old" Zonar. - Great company culture (work-life balance was emphasized and everyone embraced established traditions like Cinco De Mayo and Thanksgiving) - Positive and supportive work environment - Good technology (started to lag behind, but the idea of the services and products offered were still great)

Cons

New ownership and management came in and has basically torn down the foundation of what made Zonar a great company to work for. Many rounds of layoffs, including a "sudden" one in February that reduced the staff by about 150 (but then turning around to hire for similar positions in Latin America despite their claims the jobs will remain in the US to support existing long-term customers). Management is a joke and acts like a group of bros trying to be taken seriously led by a CEO who chooses to pick public arguments when he is called out on something. The HR team is clueless and basically just acts upon what the CEO says and freezes in the moment when they're asked a question. Lower level management are basically chickens with their heads cut off trying to meet demands of their managers for information and are causing their teams repetitive work filling out spreadsheets and responding to emails for the same information (information that already exists within the system). Customers are made to believe that things are great despite their technology having fallen behind their competitors in the last few years.
