My Most Disappointing Work Experience
Pros
Good people and talented engineers who are now laid off.
Cons
My experience at Zonar Systems was very disappointing. Poor planning and lack of strategic direction made it difficult to deliver meaningful work. Leadership lacked a clear product vision, and instead of focusing on innovation or long-term value, the culture was dominated by reactive task management and constant status updates. Despite attending late-night meetings to accommodate the offshore team (sometimes as late as 11pm), I was micromanaged during the day—questioned if I wasn’t at my desk for even an hour. My manager discouraged taking initiative with an attitude of “if we commit less, we face fewer problems,” which stifled creativity and impact. Meetings were back-to-back, tasks were vague, and much of the work felt low-value. Overall, it was a frustrating environment for anyone seeking to contribute meaningfully and grow professionally.
