Pros

1. Good people 2. If you're at the right place at the right time, you can have opportunities to grow here 3. Work life balance is pretty good

Cons

1. No clearly defined project and command structure 2. Senior management, especially the CEO does things on a whim leading to changing goals and priorities 3. Cluttered, unsafe work environment. The lab had a ceiling tile which was growing mold for months until someone took it down (there was a water leak above it, which no one cared about). No biohazard bins or concern for basic lab safety. 4. Pay is less than industry standard. Living in OC isn't cheap and the company doesn't care about that. They try to pay you less, promise to revisit the salary discussion in 6 to 12 months when they do formal reviews (this is a joke, they DON'T) and you'll be making more once you start doing good work. All false promises, you accept a low salary and it'll either stay there or you'll make a marginal amount more. 5. No company wide raise last year.

Pros

Lots of down time, you can pretty much do whatever you want

Cons

TL;DR don't work here if you expect to be doing any meaningful work Too many, here are just some of them: - Working environment is the worst I have ever seen. Most people are crammed into a 1000sqft common area, extremely high noise level (expensive noise cancelling headphones won't save you), with people chatting and taking tech calls. Old journals, binders, empty packaging, and junk is littered in every corner. Some people are forced to work in a non-ventilated room and in hallways right next to loud freezers. Cockroaches are present in the breakroom and bathrooms. - Work safety is probably violated in many situations. There are no clear borders and strict guidelines for lab personnel, samples are handled in and out of lab areas, and have a high risk of contaminating clean areas. Jugs of ethanol and gasoline are left in the open without proper storage. In many cases, I have seen people touch door knobs, keyboards, and water bottles with gloves on. - No work culture. Too many people just sit around and chat so loudly that others can't make any calls or get any work done. People come in at early at 8AM to have tea parties and leave early. Some people just work half days. - No structure to projects, no clear priorities, working here is just a big mess. There are no deadlines, no goals, no direction at all. There is nothing much to do except make low-end, cheap, and easily marketed lab materials/services for fast cash.
