Pros

There are some nice people. But most of them got laid off or are leaving.

Cons

Outrageous nepotism from the CEO. No business direction, strategy, leadership, talent development or financial management. Even after laying off most senior management, the company is still on a trade show tour, sending scientists, spending millions and not affecting sales or tracking them. The company likely won’t be around in a year or so.

Pros

Stable financially so always paid on time, decent benefits, decent work life balance though it depends on your role. Some really cool people.

Cons

Some not cool people, sexism, no sick time have to use PTO, have to go through awful temp agency when you start, poor leadership, poor communication, the list goes on...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Zymo Research. The company engages in thorough Covid-19 testing procedures that we wish to clarify. If fully vaccinated, employees are not required to do any Covid testing, however, we do provide free and non-invasive throat swab Covid-19 tests to employees and immediate family members regardless. If not vaccinated, employees are encouraged to test Monday through Friday and they are informed of their test result the same day. We value the health and safety of our employees especially at this time during the pandemic. Again, thank you for your insight into helping the HR department make Zymo Research a better company for everyone.

Pros

There are very limited benefits to working for this company and it's hard to think of any positives other than a few good colleagues that made working at Zymo worthwhile. There are a select few employment positions here that are considered important enough to make good money but this is rare and often comes with its own horrible consequences. The company has made a recent effort to hire a few (maybe 2 or 3) knowledgable individuals with industry experience, some of which specialize in helping small-to-medium sized become lean operations. However, undoubtedly, this effort never lasts. The company has seen wave after wave of talented professionals who soon realize their talents are being wasted on a company unwilling to change.

Cons

Almost every employee at Zymo is experiencing burnout. Too much work and not enough resources to do the job. Zymo thrives by hiring individuals with little-to-no industry experience who don't question the authority and validity of CEO who is a very intelligent scientist but lacks in his ability to effectively lead a manufacturing company. Commonly, undergrads with only 1+ years of experience from R&D are asked to take management positions in operations. Not because they have real skill or talent but rather because they are so naive that they will bend the whims of the CEO. You can think of them as pawns planted to ensure maintenance of control over all aspects of the company. If you are looking for a toxic work environment where hard work is never rewarded, this is the place for you! The harder you work, the more you will likely be told you are not doing enough. The CEO has single-handedly created a culture of fear and confusion by belittling employees in management stand-up meetings ( I have seen several managers cry) and by constantly changing direction and overall vision for company directives at the drop of hat. You will NEVER receive constructive criticism and there are no performance evaluations unless you have a strong and experienced manager who will help facilitate this but this is almost unheard of. If you have an important enough job, you will be given more opportunities to "succeed" but please do not fool yourself, you will never be "successful" here. Perhaps you will be paid monetarily, but trust me when I say anyone making good money at Zymo is paying for it one way or another.
