A Disappointment for Lack of Hours, Benefits

Pros

Flexible work schedule, get paid more than minimum wage to merchandise jewelry (when I worked in a retail store, I got paid minimum wage for about the same work), some good managers, paid for mileage between stores, busy and constantly changing atmosphere. I'm not bored like I was in many other previous jobs.

Cons

No full-time hours (hours are usually between 15-20 per week), no benefits, must hold down another job in order to make ends meat (it can be difficult to get another job with extra hours you have to put in for merchandise moves and inventory), many last-minute changes, shipments not reaching the stores on time, lack of supplies, some bad managers (I've worked with both good and bad in Beeline and at the partner stores), hand-held machine has many kinks to work out, no work allowed on weekends or holidays (this is a big con when there is more work than usual), sometimes the website is down. There can be quite a bit of travel between stores. It is difficult to work when there are numerous customers shopping in the store looking at jewelry. The loud music at Old Navy is annoying. This is supposed to be a store, not a club. No raise after performance reviews.

Mobile Merchandiser

Pros

May be a growing company with opportunities, that is what we are told. But in the mean time you will have to work your behind off, and still hope that company will live up to expectations. So far the only positive is that we can, on down time, make our own schedule. Another positive might be that all this responsibility might look good on a resume, if you can get management to say something nice about you when using them as a reference.

Cons

Management is highly unorganized, communication between Germany and Us management is constantly misunderstood. We are bombarded with e-mails within them tons of misunderstandings and corrections, management is even confused and constantly gives wrong answers. But at the end it is the mobile merchandisers "fault", so company is never happy with merchandisers. Merchandisers get blamed for everything, while management covers their behind. There is not a work/life balance with this job because when we get interviewed and hired we are told there lots of flexibility with work schedule, we can work any amount of hours as we please and that it is a low stress job that is very easy. But in reality there is constantly last minute changes when we are to work, there is lots of responsibilities, management type responsibilities at a cashier wage. We are required to have a reliable car, our own cell phones, internet and printer/scanner to use at our own house, only reimbursement is ink. If you don't have any of this, then you will not get hired because they don't have any offices, they want us to use our home as an office. Management is sneaky and not trustworthy, bad mouths and lies are used as a technique to cover themselves while burning others. No benefits, they want us to all be on "part-time" but be available full time.

Pros

You can go to the stores on your own clock given your scheduled days. Handling the jewelry is fun. Seeing the new trends is exciting. Seeing the displays come together is rewarding. Mileage is part of your pay. Lots of literal movement from traveling in your car to moving merchandise which means you’re not trapped in a stuffy office. Love the product and marketing.

Cons

Training was very brief. The way the company lays out the work is more complicated than it should be. I felt very confused when it came to the constant changes and felt under confident. The technology is difficult to use and you have a lot of responsibilities. You are paid for mileage which is nice but they won’t compensate you for car issues that happen from wear and tear. I personally felt blindsided by certain communication and wish I would have been contacted sooner to mitigate issues. Not enough hours but definitely a lot of work. Don’t make the mistake I did and assume your schedule is flexible even if you are led to believe this.
