We’re glad to hear you’ve found the culture transparent and the work meaningful. That means a lot to us! Leadership changes can understandably raise questions, especially over a short period of time. Since welcoming our new CEO last year, we’ve made some strategic adjustments to our executive team to set commercetools up for long-term success. We’re confident in the direction we’re heading and deeply appreciate your adaptability during times of change. We always value feedback — whether shared here or through our internal channels like Telescope, All Hands, or your Business Partner. Thanks for being part of our community!

Flexibility, Growth and Learning

Pros

Flexible culture built on trust. Despite back to the office plans I still feel that flexibility is there and will remain. As a working parent I am able to balance work and life. Colleagues are great, collaboration is open and someone is always willing to jump in and help. Given its still a relatively small company, there are opportunities to expand beyond your role and jump into interesting projects. It seems there is an openness to investing in learning and growth and a culture that promotes a growth mindset.

Cons

commercetools has been going through some heavy changes over the last 6+ months, this has brought some instability and cultural shift. While I don't expect change will slow down (its a sign of the times!) I think leadership needs to recognise the impact and try to balance that as well as doing what they can to provide people with stability so we can focus and get on with our work.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear that our flexible culture, collaborative environment, and opportunities for growth continue to stand out to you. These are values we’re committed to protecting as we grow. You’re right that the past several months have brought significant change, and we know that can influence feelings of uncertainty. While change is sometimes necessary, we also know the importance of stability — both for individuals and for teams to do their best work. Your feedback is a helpful reminder of the need to balance both, and we’re working on ways to show that through clear, consistent actions, not just words. Thank you again for your honesty and continued commitment. As always, we welcome more input through Telescope or directly with your People Business Partner. In times of transition, hearing from employees like you is more important than ever!

Pros

It was a nice company to work for, and people genuinely loved working there. But from the past years the whole situations changed....

Cons

I had a good time working at the company, but unfortunately, it has been losing its reputation due to internal discrimination among employees. They are adopting a US-style work culture, which has led to abrupt contract terminations for EU colleagues without any prior notice. Even worse, some employees have faced silent terminations without receiving any severance pay. Additionally, the higher management often puts excessive pressure on employees to complete work at an unrealistic pace, without proper planning or defined timeframes. It’s disheartening to see a company disregard employee trust, dedication, and labor in such an unfair and chaotic manner.

We want to be very clear: The claim that commercetools conducted "silent layoffs" without severance pay is unequivocally false. Not only would this be illegal in Germany, but it is also entirely against our values as a company. We acknowledge that we recently underwent restructuring — an incredibly difficult but necessary decision to align with market realities. There is no one way to approach this process in a global company that will satisfy everyone, but we made sure to provide severance packages that exceeded industry norms. Additionally, we gave all remaining employees an extra day off to process the changes before collaboratively reassessing priorities and workloads. We empathize with those impacted and understand the emotions surrounding such transitions. However, transparency must be met with honesty. commercetools remains committed to treating employees with fairness and respect, even in challenging times.
