Pros

- great people - good networking opportunity - decent pay - good product - fun events and travel - autonomy - flexibility & work/life balance

Cons

Bad time to be with the company given their plans to IPO/be acquired. They are also trying to recover from having a terrible 2024 - sales were terrible and they lost credibility from customers and partners in the ecosystem. A lot of work needs to be done to repair the damage and the next couple years won't be fun for anyone here. - lots of unpredictable change in attempts to rebuild the company (of course change is to expected at a start-up but this is relentless. They don't give us a week to recover/adjust before dropping more bad news. - lack of growth opportunities - layoffs in increments - extremely political environment - no cohesive strategy—each department operates independently with conflicting initiatives - they don't set employees up for success in their roles - very disorganized across the board - leadership is not trustworthy - zero structure - high stress - difficult product and market to sell into

We appreciate your feedback and your recognition of our team, culture, and the strengths of our product. However, we want to correct some misrepresentations in this post. While commercetools, like many companies, faced challenges in 2024, the characterization that we “lost credibility” with customers and partners is inaccurate. Our retention rate reflects the strength of our relationships, and we are actively investing in these partnerships — something that’s evident in our recent appointments within the new customer organization. Change is a constant in any scaling company, and while we recognize that it can be difficult, we aim to manage it with transparency and care. Our restructuring decisions were made thoughtfully, and while no approach will please everyone, we have taken steps to support employees through transitions. We acknowledge that commercetools is not the right environment for everyone, but for those who embrace growth, innovation, and adaptability, there are still great opportunities here. We remain committed to refining our strategy, supporting our teams, and driving commercetools forward.

Pros

A good location, very nice start and then horrible.

Cons

Very poor senior leaders. Poor engineering practices. Secret tech mess. In last two years, have fired a lot of people using operations reason then hire more. No loyalty. The firm just focus on getting to stock market and do not care about persons. High turn over of managers. Company where blame and bullying is very common. Good persons leave or have been fired. Very inexperienced engineering and product leadership. hidden architecture mess from customers. you might last longer if you are german

We're sorry to hear that your time at commercetools didn’t reflect the kind of workplace we strive to create. While we’re glad your early experience was positive, the concerns you’ve raised are deeply troubling. “Cultivate Belonging” is a core value for us, and feedback like yours shows we still have work to do. Allegations of blame, bullying, or inequity are not taken lightly, and we want to better understand what led to your experience. If you’re open to it, we encourage you to share more via our anonymous internal feedback channel (linked below), so we can look into these concerns more closely and take the appropriate actions. Thank you again for speaking up. We know it’s not easy, and we don’t take your input for granted. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSccEMSB-pWRZA5wL3IyvB-JY8bnyAi2RxJ9HqMpnq7EcKX2wg/viewform

Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re really glad to hear you value the team and compensation structure. We also know that being a BDR at commercetools can be challenging, but it’s also a role that has launched many careers here! We’ve seen BDRs move into sales, marketing, partnerships, and other areas of the business, and we want to keep creating more opportunities for internal growth. We also recognize that working in a fast-growing company comes with change, and that can sometimes feel uncertain. Your feedback is important in helping us make sure everyone feels supported and connected throughout those changes. One of the best ways to shape your career here is by working with your manager on a growth plan that aligns with your goals, highlights areas you want to develop, and identifies the support we can provide to help you get there. We’re invested in your growth, whether that’s through our learning management system, 360 Learning, which gives you access to training and development courses, or through a personal development budget to support your individual learning goals. We also offer online programs like Coursera and Babbel, a mentorship program to connect you with experienced colleagues, and HERizon, which supports women in leadership. For those looking to step into management, ctLEAD helps develop leadership skills and prepares you for greater responsibilities. If you have any questions about these programs or want to explore more ways to grow at commercetools, your team’s business partner is always a great resource. We appreciate you being part of the team and sharing your perspective!
