First and foremost, we’re concerned about this post, given that no one has ever held this title at commercetools — whether in Boston or anywhere else. We’re very open to feedback, but we want to make sure we’re hearing from real current or former employees. That said, we refute the claim that commercetools is “too EU-focused.” Our executive team and recent hires are evenly split between Europe and the U.S., reflecting our commitment to being a truly global company — something we take pride in. The culture described in this review does not align with our values. However, we recognize that friction is natural in times of change, and we continue to work toward fostering a collaborative, respectful environment. Favoritism and backstabbing are not tolerated at commercetools, and we strongly encourage anyone experiencing such behavior to report it through the appropriate channels.

Rapid growth comes with its challenges, and as a VC-backed company, we’re always working to balance ambition with sustainability. Transparent communication and continuous improvement are key priorities for us, and feedback — whether through Glassdoor or our employee survey, Telescope — helps us keep evolving in the right direction. Appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective, and thank you for being part of the team!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We're glad to hear you valued the learning opportunities at commercetools, whether through Coursera, Babbel, or our leadership development programs — it’s something we put a lot of effort into. Regarding the virtual shares, we understand how this could be disappointing. The virtual share program was introduced less than a year before the layoff, which meant that no shares had vested yet due to the one-year cliff. While the timing was unfortunate, we designed the program with industry-standard vesting schedules to ensure long-term alignment with employees' contributions. We also appreciate your feedback on communication. Since our new Chief People Officer joined, we’ve prioritized transparency and introduced new ways to keep everyone informed, including a dedicated People Team newsletter and enhanced communication channels. We’re always working to foster open, clear conversations and appreciate your feedback as we continue to improve. Thank you for being part of commercetools and sharing your perspective!
