Silent layoffs destroy team morale

Pros

There are none to share

Cons

I was inspired to write this review after seeing the review by a former employee impacted by layoffs. I too was impacted by layoffs. I encourage all impacted employees to post their truthful experiences - given the deluge of 5 star reviews. CEO promised at Berlin Summer Off-site last year that there were to be no lay-offs but the axe fell silently across departments and also across regions. Employer Branding, Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, Engineering were impacted. During January All Hands when CEO was pressed for an answer on lay-off situation, his nonchalant answer was “ All MACH Alliance vendors are also doing lay-offs.” . Csuite and many senior employees have overplayed sense of superiority in damning competition when they are running on threadbare budgets , reduced headcount and shrinking market share. Commercetools has lost its glory and will struggle to IPO.

Hi there! We would never underestimate the experience of being laid off. That said, two things can be true. There was nothing casual or nonchalant about that decision for commercetools. Given the macroeconomic conditions that impacted everyone in the tech industry globally in late 2022, it became critical in January to invest in what was working for the business, and pace our investments to match the economic realities around us. That was the only layoff of its kind in commercetools' history, and we’re working to ensure that our revised responsible growth strategy solidifies that. In terms of the competitive landscape, this is simply not true. We created and defined the composable commerce market category and almost half of our business in the last three years alone came from “bigger players”. As an international startup, fast growth came with growing pains, but our continued innovation and awarded authority in this space is third-party and analyst-backed. Any notion otherwise diminishes the exceptional work of our employees.
