A once great company failing fast

Pros

There are still some great people left at eGain, and the Knowledge product is market leading. They also have some good complimentary products.

Cons

There are a lot of good, senior, experienced people leaving eGain, and the reasons for this are being ignored by the exec team. eStaff seem to have a head in the sand approach and unfortunately the direction of the company is completely driven by the CEO. He has surrounded himself with a team of people who tow the company line and won't speak up. This is leading to a massive failing (look at the recent earnings releases and stock price!). Employees are treated like commodities who are easily replaced. There is no feeling of loyalty or reward for a job well done. It's a common feeling that the CEO doesn't really care about his staff which makes it difficult for everyone to pull together. Pay reviews have been promised for months and never materialise. And moving everyone from a modern office in a busy town to a dated office miles away and not offering financial compensation shows how little the staff are cared about. The move has left many out of pocket financially and has taken chunks of time out of their personal lives. Resource is a massive issue with many key departments being very under resourced and the feeling is we have to do more with the little we have, and that this won't be addressed anytime soon. Finally eGain don't seem to like paying their sales guys. Even if you hit your target you don't get paid your OTE (the com plan is dreadful and commission statements are non existent). It also feels like they have to fight to get paid on time.

Pros

Some great people in PS and support.

Cons

CEO lives in bubble and hasn't noticed any modern competitors. Senior exec team are all friends and very weak. No one senior in eGain has ever worked for a similar competitor. Any one who has leaves after 2 years. If you are thinking of joining look at sales turnover on LinkedIn. This is not a sales focused company. Exec team creates atmosphere of them and us, creating conflict between all teams. Commisions are begrudged and every attempt not to pay made. Meanwhile modern sales organisations with professional marketing, generous comp plans, SDRs, Success Manager (not sales) grow 50% a year... Rightnow and Kana started roughly same time in same area. Both exited at high multiples. eGain has run out of steam and desperately needs new leadership

Pros

The product suite is the best in the market. Analyst relations are impressive Some of the most dedicated and energetic people I have met work here. There is opportunity to move from one department to another so it would be perfect for someone just starting out to explore their options

Cons

There tends to be high turnover in some departments resulting in some disorganization and extra effort required to communicate
