Pros

Some of the nicest, smartest individuals I’ve had the pleasure to meet and work with. Company culture was great up until the last few months.

Cons

Transparency is no longer in the picture. People claim to take the culture seriously and I think a lot of people do, just not the people making decisions. In my time at ezCater I’ve always trusted upper management until recently. It saddens me to see the amount of negative changes made at ezCater. The New CEO has lost my trust with his inability to answer pretty straight forward questions. Also when asked about transparency, he got defensive and raised his voice like a child throwing a tantrum. Up until the last few months, I spoke highly of ezCater and would recommend ezCater to anyone looking for a new career. Now… I would stay clear atleast for the time being.

I agree, our people are incredibly smart and kind. I’m sorry you feel our culture has changed over these past few months. Transparency has always been one of our key culture ingredients and continues to be an important part of how we operate as an organization. If you’re open to it, I welcome a conversation to discuss your perspective. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. With sincere appreciation, Diane

The ezCater culture is dead and won’t come back

Pros

The money is decent if you are in the right position

Cons

They advertise a culture that no longer exists. The new CEO ruined the culture and doesn’t respect it or the people. Announcements about IPO have been replaced with monthly layoffs and demotions (March - current). Every month they let some more people go at all levels so that they don’t have to claim that it’s an official layoff but we all know it is. transparency is no longer something that the company supports so you never know when it will end. We are scared to talk on zoom since IT can see everything. We are not allowed to share information like we did before and all the higher ups lie to us about what they are doing. When the new CEO took over last year he said that he would not bring in his friends or do layoffs. That was clearly a lie. One that he continues to tell even though we all see something different. Since they got rid of the HR leaders and replaced them with lawyers, there is no one to talk to that you can trust to be fair. The CEO yells at employees and goes toe to toe with anyone who asks questions. Multiple people including managers have gone to the Chief HR Lawyer to complain about the CEO and the abrupt changes. She responds with protection and excuses. Everyone is scared everyday. That was never the case under the old CEO. There is no transparency or support. Most of the best senior people are gone now. The managers who are safe seem to be the most toxic and act like the CEO. An example is replacing the Chief of Sales that everyone liked with his friend who took over as the new Chief revenue officer. His first major decision was to lay off and demote people in sales after only a few weeks. That had to be a plan from the CEO who keeps telling everyone that he isn’t planning any layoffs. Save the headache. I would only recommend coming to ezCater if you like being manipulated and treated like a number.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. Like all businesses, we evolve our goals and organizational structure based on our stage of growth, strategic priorities and business needs. I’m sorry you disagree with some of the changes that have been made and feel our culture and transparency are not what they used to be. Additionally, I’m very concerned you feel that I cannot be trusted to be fair. In both my Chief People Officer and Chief Legal Officer roles, I always strive to be fair and honest with all of our employees. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about the concerns you’ve raised. If you’re willing to do that, please reach out to me directly. With sincere appreciation, Diane

Pros

Incredible people, many that are no longer with the company, for no fault of their own. At least until about a year ago, making solid money wasn't overly difficult, but that's no longer the case, but the addressable market is still very much there for the taking. If you're scrappy and entrepreneurial, you'll have every opportunity to raise your hand for impactful projects, but expect scope and direction to change quarterly/monthly, if not more than that.

Cons

There are literally no adults in the room. The board hired an incapable, first time CEO 2 years ago who blew up GTM, wiped out the majority of the C-suite and had every intention of slicing and dicing the business to attract buyers. When that didn't work, the board tossed him and his crony CRO out of the compay 6 months ago. Out of the woods? Nope. What followed was a prolonged 'strategic review' of the business, more gaslighting, and the eventual mass layoff of half of the sales organization last month. The worst part? They're now rehiring middle managers and IC's once again, so this was all done to cast off employees they wanted no part of and didn't want to invest in. Wild stuff.

I share your appreciation for our incredible team, today and in the past, and the entrepreneurial spirit that sets our culture apart. The strategic review cited in your feedback was initiated with the goal of ensuring our company’s long-term sustainability and future growth, and so that we can best meet the needs of our customers and catering partners. This said, I understand change can be difficult to navigate. Regarding your comment on hiring, as any business evolves, we assess our organizational structure. This sometimes means recruiting for roles that align with new priorities or respond to emerging business needs. Thank you, Robert
