Things have a way of working out for the best
Pros
You'll get to learn how to not do things. You will learn to appreciate the stuff that matters in life and be happier after you quit, maybe.
Cons
If you think your big company is a politics infested leech hive, you are mistaken. This is the king dung of behind kissing, where it matters not what you build, but only who you flatter. Do you want to get away from the rat race, join an exciting startup and see your equity grow among some of the smartest and ingenious risk takers in the world? Well, get ready to find the biggest bureaucracy masquerading as a tech startup, be treated like a commodity, asked to move across country just to be discarded after a month. Enjoy being constantly micromanaged by people who have no idea about anything and are CYA experts. Your opinion is worthless and none of your skills matter, if you don't have the right friends. Be ready to discard your equity and everything you are working on because we are "pivoting". You listen to "this is startup culture" being thrown away only to mask gross incompetence, lies, panic, random layoffs and a general sense that nothing works. Startups are not really startups, but product teams managed from above. Each employee has to listen to not just one but a few chiefs as to how to do their job. Nobody wants to help, but gives constantly changing tasks without any understanding of the context of what is being built and how things work, while pointing fingers if something does not work or criticize if you show any initiative. There is no career or skills to improve, nobody gives any real guidance that could help you in any way, you have to figure it all out while constantly walking on thin ice, because upsetting the wrong people is fatal. Your actual manager may also change every week, along with goals, teams, technology or office and you wont have a say in anything. If you are in, have a backup ready, if you are out, there's better. Welcome to Rex, a great place if you are not looking for a startup, tech or integrity.
