A recent study shows 30 million children play sports and 3.5 million under the age of 14 are injured each year. Greg Folsom, MD, Allina Health Orthopedics, is one of the physicians for Minnesota United FC. He spoke with WCCO-TV about ways to prevent injuries such as coaching kids to listen to their bodies and not play through the pain. He also noted how playing the same sport year-round can cause physical wear and tear on young athletes' bodies. [WCCO-TV News, September 16, 2022]

A couple of weekends ago, our teams at Allina Health had the opportunity to team up with the Cultural Wellness Center's Slow Roll Twin Cities to host a free helmet decorating event. The event was designed to support Black girls and women with hair concerns while wearing helmets, as well as to encourage bike riding. “I immediately loved this idea when I heard about it. As a Black woman, I personally understand the challenges of maintaining my hair when I exercise. As an advocate for health equity, I believe it’s important to identify all obstacles standing in the way of a person finding wellness and achieving an active lifestyle,” said Vivian Anugwom, director, Health Equity at Allina Health. “This event and these videos address real life concerns Black girls and women have in a fun, approachable way."

We are excited to share that we officially broke ground on Allina Health's new multi-specialty clinic in Lakeville, MN!
