Celebrating 20 Years of Behr Cares During National Volunteer Week, we’re recognizing the 20th anniversary of our Behr Cares program. It all began when a passionate team member suggested Behr sponsor our colleagues at multiple charity walks per year, such as the 2003 American Heart Walk (pictured). The program has grown to include grants and in-kind product donations to over 60 nonprofits per year, and a volunteer element that gives team members one day paid time annually to serve a nonprofit of their choice.

In Celebration of Earth Month Our commitment to doing the right thing extends to how we care for our world. At Behr, The Green Team, formed by a group of sustainability enthusiasts, is using this month-long celebration to encourage our team members to integrate green habits into their personal lives with an Earth Month 30-Day Challenge and an Earth Day Pledge.

Teaming Up with the LA County Fire Department Yesterday, our Behr team members helped the LA County Fire Department paint and transform a Torrance Beach lifeguard tower into a mural that honors community members with autism spectrum disorder. Their Sirens of Silence program promotes autism and special needs awareness and acceptance, a cause that impacts several members in our Behr community. A variety of BEHR paint colors and supplies were donated, and team members enjoyed painting for a good cause.

We seek to spark conversations around increasing the presence of tradeswomen and discovering how we can be stronger allies to prospective and professional women paint contractors.

Recognizing International Women's Day Today, we honor and celebrate women’s achievements and stories. Our own Gloria San Miguel received an Outstanding Women in Leadership Award from Masco, our parent company. At Behr, she served on the DEI Council Board for 2 years. She’s also active in her community, and currently serves as the President for the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women, Southern California chapter, an organization that provides support to college-aged Hispanic women. Congratulations, Gloria.

Recently, seven Behr team members used their company-paid Behr Cares hours to volunteer for a half day at Reimagine. They helped in arts and crafts and academics classes, and served food and drinks. Here are a few testimonials: “The day was full of laughter and genuine words.” “This event was eye-opening and perspective changing.”

Building Skills through Behr’s Toastmasters Club Since 2013, Behr has offered a Toastmasters Club to help interested team members strengthen their public speaking and leadership skills in a supportive and comfortable setting. By offering the program in a virtual format, team members located throughout the US can join. As a bonus, Behr covers the cost of dues for eligible team members who become members and participate in the twice monthly meetings.

Behr Hosts a Blood Drive for City of Hope. Recently, 28 team members donated blood at our headquarters to support the patients of our cherished philanthropy partner, City of Hope. The Behr team has supported this organization for more than 25 years, through employee donations, assorted employee fundraisers, blood drives, annual golf events, and the annual sponsorship of the Survivor’s Pavilion at their Walk for Hope event. We are thankful for the City of Hope’s lifesaving work and will continue to find ways to support their vision for a future free of cancer.
