February 2, 2022, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, predicting more winter ahead. As the current winter storm sweeps across the country, CJ Logistics America’s Transportation team is carefully monitoring the weather situation and working to manage the storm’s impact on customers’ shipments. Every February 2, Punxsutawney Phil, of Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, emerges from his burrow to observe weather conditions and look for his shadow in order to make a prediction about the weather ahead. If he sees his shadow, the prediction is for six more weeks of winter; if he doesn’t see his shadow, it’s warmer temperatures and an early spring. While CJ Logistics America might not be Punxsutawney Phil or the Farmers’ Almanac, on February 2 and every other day of the year, our teams can help you assess, predict and preempt change. We leverage business intelligence and analytics to translate the patterns and possibilities, using data and information to draw insights and support our findings.
Celebrating Korean Lunar New Year Korean Lunar New Year, or Seollal, falls on February 1 this year. Seollal, a major holiday in the lives of South Koreans, comes in January or February and marks the first day of the lunar calendar. The three-day period of celebrations for this important traditional Korean holiday begins on New Year’s Eve. It is a time of celebrating with family and showing respect to ancestors. The start of this holiday traditional to South Korea and other east Asian countries is determined by the lunar calendar — the cycles of the moon’s phases — and takes place on the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar, or the second new moon after the winter solstice.

As CJ Logistics employees continue to embrace community outreach, the teams at the company’s locations in North Carolina – Rural Hall, Kernersville, Greensboro and Winston-Salem – have partnered with Rural Hall Elementary School to provide support when needs arise. In December, the CJ teams delivered the clothing, shoes and food to stock the food pantry that were the greatest needs for the month. Thanking the CJ teams for their donations of clothing and food, School Counselor Patti Durham said that Rural Hall Elementary is a Title 1 school, meaning that 50% or more of the students receive free and reduced lunches. Each week the school provides 114 food bags to students. For this ongoing project, CJ teams will continue to collect food and clothing items, with monthly collection drop-offs. “All of the teams are excited to be part of such a wonderful project and to be able to make a huge difference in a child’s life,” CJ Senior HR Manager Angela Goodson said. “They are proud of their efforts to provide support for the school and to be involved in the community.”

In the spirit of Creating Shared Value (CSV), the community service value at the core of CJ Logistics culture, the company’s Corporate and Transportation Center teams donated goods for the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry in Elk Grove Village. The donations collected during October and November were delivered to the food pantry the week of Thanksgiving. The donations were collected in memory of Breanna Keenley, daughter of Kelli Keenley, a CJ Logistics employee. The Elk Grove Township Board voted to name the Food Pantry in honor of Breanna in recognition of her lifetime of commitment to service. Previously, the CJ Logistics teams collected donations for The Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines, a non-profit organization supporting those in need in the community. At another CJ Logistics location in Carlisle, PA, the warehouse team adopted two families for Thanksgiving, providing all the ingredients for their holiday meal, and is also adopting 20 Angels to sponsor for Christmas. The Carlisle team’s projects are in partnership with The Salvation Army.
