We are committed to centering racial equity across our work in science, education and our local communities. Our 2022 racial equity grants support organizations, institutions, communities and individuals at the front lines of the fight for equity who are advancing critical research, shifting cultural narratives and building a pipeline of leaders. The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science — or SACNAS — hosts the largest multidisciplinary and multicultural STEM diversity event in the country. For the second year, CZI sponsored the conference. We spent the weekend meeting with and mentoring some of the next generation of LGBTQIA+ engineers at the Out 4 Undergrad Tech conference. While the opportunity to share our work was exciting, the real honor was learning from and spending time with these amazing students. We're proud to support Out 4 Undergrad Tech and its goal of helping LGBTQIA+ undergraduates reach their full potential. We could not be more excited to see what these future engineers will accomplish! 🏳️🌈

Mark helped support the Summit Learning program, which is a tool to help teachers tailor learning experiences to individual student needs. ”I am most proud of my non-technical growth, in areas such as cross-functional teamwork and communication. I really feel like I couldn't have grown like this anywhere else — everyone at CZI is so open and made me feel comfortable interacting with anyone.”

“I see my work on Summit Learning as an opportunity to empower teachers and students to learn, grow and succeed. The unique lens that Summit Learning takes in its whole child approach to education is something that I think will benefit students in the long run — both in school and in life.” Baolinh Nguyen started her career at CZI as an intern and is now a software engineer on our education team. She’s working on the Summit Learning platform to build technology that helps teachers differentiate learning experiences equitably. I was lucky because I always had a roof over my head.
