Meet an extraordinary couple, Clyde and Mimi Ross, residing at our Mechanicsburg campus. Like Clyde's favorite love poem, Elizabeth Barrett’s Sonnet 43 (How do I love thee?), the Messiah University Emeritus Professor of English has been counting the ways he has loved Mimi since he first laid eyes on her at a youth group in 1951. Clyde and Mimi are celebrating an impressive 70 years of marriage. Their love story serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration in today's world and was featured on Fox43.
Country Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center receives highest rating from national publication Country Meadows of Bethlehem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is proud to be recognized as a Best Nursing Home by U.S. News and World Report for both Long-Term Care and Short-Term Rehabilitation. This is the second consecutive year the facility received top honors in both categories and, since US News started recognizing Best Nursing Homes-Short-Term Facilities in 2018, the Center has received a “High Performance” rating every year. The 2024 edition of Best Nursing Homes features ratings of more than 15,000 nursing homes, evaluated on patient and resident outcomes, such as infection rates; staffing levels; reliance on antipsychotic drugs; health inspection results and other indicators of quality. “Our team at Country Meadows of Bethlehem Nursing Center has been recognized as one of the top performing nursing centers in the nation several times, and we are pleased to be among this elite group of health care providers,” says Meredith Mills, president & CEO-Country Meadows Retirement Communities. “It is a great tribute to the Center’s staff whose delivery of quality care results in this high rating.”
Co-worker honored for story of caring Blossom Smith, Personal Care Coordinator at Country Meadows of Wyomissing, was honored by the Pennsylvania Health Care Association (PHCA) and Ceca Foundation by sharing her Story of Caring. Stories of Caring honorees are exceptional caregivers who go above and beyond in their role as a caregiver and were nominated by their peers who shared their inspiring stories. Stories of Caring honoree Blossom Smith hugs one of her beloved residents at Country Meadows of Wyomissing. “Blossom means everything to the care of our residents here,” says Laura Strausser, Campus Executive Director-Country Meadows of Wyomissing, adding, “Her name is synonymous with Country Meadows, and I hope that this award really just hits home with her and it means something. I just want her to know how special she is.” In addition to being beloved by Country Meadows’ residents, Smith is respected by her co-workers and considered a mentor. “She has no idea how wonderful she is,” says Strausser. “She’s dedicated her life to us; over 27 years she has been on our campus molding and mentoring our co-workers and creating the next generation of caregivers, being there to teach them so they come in everyday and treat all of our residents like family.” At the end of the day, Smith says her dedication comes from pure love for the residents. “I just love my job or I wouldn’t be here. 27 years of ups and downs. I love my residents; I love all of them!”
Russell Stack, campus executive director at Country Meadows of Leader Heights in South York, was named Administrator of the Year by the Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association (PALA). This award recognizes Personal Care Homes and Assisted Living Residence administrators who have demonstrated outstanding leadership through their dedication to their staff, the residents and families they serve, as well as the personal care and assisted living industry. “What a surprise it was!” says Stack, comparing the honor to a sports team coach. “They receive too much of the blame when things are rough and too much credit when things are going well. With that analogy, I share the credit with our entire team as they are all equally responsible for my receiving this award!” “We at Country Meadows are thrilled to see Russ receive this well-deserved honor,” says Country Meadows President & CEO, Meredith Mills. “He is a thoughtful, seasoned and kind leader who focuses on quality of life for the residents he serves as well as his fellow co-workers.” Stack chose a career in senior living because he wanted to enter a field where he could make a positive impact on the lives of his neighbors and society as a whole. He has learned a lot from working with older adults. “Simply making a person happy, even if for only a moment during the day, is rewarding,” he says. “I love being able to create and implement new polices that ensure happier, healthier residents on our campus.”
