View from intern Oscar's perspective: Today I got a chance to visit the Amberglen South site. It’s a project I’ve been helping on these last few weeks. Going on-site was a good learning experience. Seeing the site in-person gave me a fresh new perspective. Working on CAD plans made me forget that these sites are not just lines on a screen. While standing on-site, I tried to envision the future streets and buildings. It’s impressive how much work and time gets put into projects. It may sound silly but these experiences aren’t taught in school. I’ve learned a lot on my first internship with DOWL. I’m sad I only have one week left before I head back to school to finish my senior year. The summer flew by this year.
On August 19th, DOWL partook in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new 23,424 sf Public Safety Building in the town of Queen Creek caps off about 2 years of effort for the Tempe Office. This design-build project also included a new fire station, dedicated a few months ago, in addition to the Public Safety Building. The community was invited to attend and free festivities included the sheriff’s office providing free child ID’s, K9 demo, tours of the new building, photo booth, and a dunk tank manned by sheriff’s deputies. DOWL provided all civil design for this project, including site grading, drainage, and utilities, roadway improvements, left-turn lane improvements, and emergency signals. The project team was led by CORE Construction and Perlman Architects, one of Tempe’s main clients. We currently have 4 additional fire stations in various states of design and construction with the same team.
Three years ago, DOWL pledged $125,000 to support two children's hospitals. The pledge was for annual payments of $12,500 to each hospital for five years. DOWL Anchorage Office Manager, Bradley Melocik was pleased to present a demonstration check to the Providence Foundation in Anchorage for DOWL's 2017 support. We are proud to help the Providence Foundation and the St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation in Billings, Montana in their mission to serve our community's youngest cancer patients.

Employees from the Anchorage Office volunteered to clean up the road they have adopted as well as Cuddy Park directly east of the office! This is the first of three planned cleanups for 2017.
