Ask any Eden student about their favorite part of camp, and chances are they’ll say the same thing: swimming! They love being in the water, where they show off their skills pushing off the side of the pool, jumping in, doing underwater handstands, and swimming with peers and staff.

Eden families, teachers, and staff came together to celebrate the seven exceptional Eden School Class of 2026 graduates — Hassan, Jaiden, Michael, Navin, Sruthi, Trisha, and Yuan. The June 24 commencement ceremony marked the end of their high school journey and the beginning of a new chapter. Before the students received their diplomas, they received awards for mastering new skills and working in the community. Behind every award were hours of practice, persistence, and patience. “To our graduating class of 2026, today is your day. This moment represents years of hard work, determination, and perseverance,” said Chief Program Officer Dr. Rachel Tait. “Many of you spent years working through obstacles that others may never fully understand. You learned new ways to communicate, you learned to navigate your communities, you learned vocational skills and held jobs, you learned how to advocate for yourselves, you worked through fears, frustrations, and setbacks, and you kept going.”
Eden Autism is thrilled to announce that Kevin Petranich is the recipient of the 2026 NJACP STARS Award! Kevin’s journey is a true example of determination, growth, and resilience. Over the years, he has continued to build meaningful skills in both his professional and personal life while remaining dedicated to achieving his goals.

Ari Shiner made history when he became the first individual with autism to be hired by Wawa in 1981. Now, he’s making history again as he celebrates 45 years with the company. Wawa celebrated the 45th anniversary of its ground-breaking initiative by recognizing Ari, the company’s first supported employment associate, on April 23 at the Princeton University Wawa, where the Wawa-Eden partnership began.
When Kathy Hirsch walks into her daughter’s home, she can’t help but smile. “That house has a really good vibe,” said Kathy. “I couldn’t be happier, and I’m so blessed that Kelley is able to live there.” Kelley and her three housemates live at Eden’s newest residence. The 3,400-square-foot ranch-style house opened last August and was fully renovated to support residents as they age. The home features an open floor plan that includes an eat-in kitchen, living room, great room, four bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms. Accessibility enhancements include front and rear ramps, a composite deck, and a host of modern upgrades.

Every evening, the men who live at Eden’s Blue Devil House gather around the table for dinner. They don’t start eating until everyone is seated. After living together for 10 years, it has become an important tradition to end their day by sharing a meal. Ari, David, Martin, and Michael have created many traditions and routines that they enjoy together. The structure of their week provides the housemates with a sense of comfort and familiarity, and with comfort comes growth.
When Edyta Zak-Burns reflects on her career, her favorite time was spent working in the group homes. “I loved being able to work with the participants and expose them to new things and experience things with them to see if they like them or not, and working with families and getting them comfortable to trust me to take care of their loved ones.”
