In one of New Hampshire’s largest-ever volunteer events, more than 150 employees helped assemble and pack more than 24,000 meals for families in need at Friday’s “Mac-off” at Energy Park. New Hampshire Food Bank, which regularly holds “Mac-offs” at its headquarters in Manchester, brought its activity to Five Rivers Auditorium where 16 teams from across the southern portion of our service territory served people in the neighborhoods where we work and live. Teams competed in three shifts to see who could bag, seal, and box the most macaroni and cheese meals in an allotted time. The winning team was the “Mac ‘n chEasterns,” comprised primarily of employees from the Epping, Portsmouth and Rochester work centers.

Families, friends, and our employees spent the morning carefully placing beautiful green wreaths with red bows at several Veteran's cemeteries. Saturday was National Wreaths Across America - Official Page Day and thousands of volunteers come together to pay tribute to fallen veterans across the country and abroad. This year, we’re honored to contribute to the cause and to help provide enough wreaths for every gravesite at the state cemetery and to remember those who have died defending our country.

The spirit of the holidays is underway at Catholic Charities. Some members of our Staffing team had fun yesterday partnering with Gas Operations to help stock the Catholic Charities food bank in Worcester.

Giving back is always a great way to get into the holiday spirit! Two groups of our volunteers recently spent the day at Gemma Food Center in New London and with Enfield Loaves & Fishes to help the organizations package, sort, and cook food for those in need. In New London, they sorted through more than 700 lbs of produce, meats, and other items that will go to families this holiday season. At Loaves and Fishes, volunteers worked to prepare and serve a Thanksgiving dinner to more than 100 people. Thanks to Gemma Food Center and Loaves and Fishes for having us! Together, we’re in good company.

“I knew from a young age that I wanted to serve this country. I attended the oldest private military college, Norwich University in VT. Upon graduation, I commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and was stationed at FT Hood Texas. After 2 deployments totaling 27 months, serving as an M1A2SEP ABRAMS PLT LDR and logistics officer, I decided it was time to be a full time dad and husband. The thing about working at Eversource that intrigued me was the amount of time employees stay at the company. While seeking employment, I always said I wanted a career - not a job. Here at Eversource, I’ve not only had the opportunity to successfully lead employees through change, I’ve been able to balance my day-to-day life while still serving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the National Guard.” - Matthew Weeks, pictured with his two young sons, is a Supervisor of Electric Field Operations working out of our Plymouth Service Center.
