Wenger’s Martinsburg Mill recently earned ISO certification in ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environmental Management, and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety. The Company originally earned certification in 2003. The Martinsburg Mill joins eight of our ten locations as ISO-certified, and the discipline of the system shapes all we do. Customers can trust in every stage of purchasing, manufacturing, and delivery. All policies, processes, procedures, and work instructions form part of the proprietary Wenger System (WS) that governs implementation uniformly across the network for a consistent delivery of quality. In addition to ISO, the company also has several additional certifications including Non-GMO, Organic, and Safe Quality Food.

Operations Team Members from throughout the company spent a week in Kansas learning about all aspects of feed manufacturing. Quality & Food Safety Director Kim Raczka reported, “We were able to tour the KSU O.H. Kruse Feed Technology Center (the research feed mill), watch an extrusion demonstration, and learn about CV (coefficient variations) in regards to particle size and pellet quality analysis.” The Company is proud to invest in training opportunities for our team.

Doug Goodling’s father, Charlie, was the Complex Manager at Eggs, Inc., Wenger’s first layer complex. Doug worked there in the 1960s and 1970s and later worked his way up on the mill side of the business. Doug was instrumental in the building of the Shippensburg and Muncy Mills. He now works on construction projects both large and small at the Company including the recent new loadout at the Hempfield Mill. Doug cited the projects and the start-ups as what he likes best about the job. He has been part of the company for 50 years. Congratulations on this milestone anniversary, Doug. We’re glad you’re here!

The first class of the Wenger Animal Nutrition Academy (WANA) Know-Edge Nutrition Program, Module 1, has graduated its first class. The program was developed by Dr. Raj Kasula and his team to help upskill team members from throughout the organization on nutrition, nutrients, nutritional technologies, and their application. The first of its module of the Know-Edge Nutrition Program started on January 19 and ran through April 27. The 15 courses included topics from the Anatomy and Physiology of Poultry to Nutrition and Formulation and Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Food Safety. The program built on the in-house expertise of our team with the following individuals serving as faculty: Senior Vice President & Chief Nutrition Officer Dr. Raj Kasula, Nutrition Services Manager Dr. Fausto Solis, Formulations Strategy Manager Chris Olinger, Consulting Nutritionist Dr. Michael Elliot, Manufacturing Quality Assurance Manager Greg Nell, Management System & Certified Process Manager Justin Collins, and Manager - Nutrition & Quality Laboratory Jesse Sanders.

Recognized by the Global Food Safety Institute, the SQF family of food safety and quality codes are designed to meet retailer and buyer needs. The Hempfield Mill joins Wenger’s Rheems Mill, which became the first commercial feed mill in the United States to achieve SQF certification for poultry and swine feeds in 2015. Both mills are now certified to Safe Food/ Safe Feed FSC 34 Manufacture of Animal Feeds and will be audited once a year. The certification aids Wenger customers in differentiating themselves in the very competitive retail marketplace. By sourcing their animal nutrition from an SQF certified feed mill, Wenger’s customers can promote the quality and safety of their products while also meeting retailer and end consumer requirements and preferences.
