Chuck Wehinger presented at Agilent’s Lab Informatics User Group Meeting about how SLIMS transformed their laboratory workflow, speaking in Wilmington, DE on September 9th and virtually in Santa Clara, CA on September 16th. His session highlighted SLIMS’ impact on moving away from Excel spreadsheets to a secure database, automating instrument reporting for various analyses, reducing sample-to-report turnaround time, and improving company-wide sample visibility and data integration with JDE and Concept 5. Since going live in February, the system has processed over 14,000 samples with 65 users across multiple departments, supporting 53 tests covering 224 analytes and 417 common feed and ingredient specifications out of their 4,000 total feed formulas in Concept 5.

The Wenger Group’s Nutrition & Quality Control Laboratory, part of the WNSIC function, has implemented SLIMS, a new Laboratory Information Management. Phase one launched in February, consolidating all test results—from ingredients to finished feed, egg testing, water quality, research, and non-conformances—into a single, searchable, and accessible system. This upgrade enhances traceability, improves data integrity, integrates with lab instruments for faster reporting, and aligns with FDA compliance standards. Ultimately, SLIMS will enable customers to order and track samples, streamline operations, and integrate results directly with the company’s ERP system.

At the Wenger Group, stewardship is a core value—managing our resources and responsibilities wisely to build a sustainable future for our team members, customers, communities, and the environment. Across our company, we demonstrate this commitment through a variety of initiatives, including recycling programs, energy conservation efforts, and community outreach—both large and small. All mills have bailers to package corrugated cardboard, kraft bags, low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film, and supersaks, which are materials commonly used to package ingredients. In calendar year 2024, the team recycled: 27.03 tons corrugated scrap, 67.04 tons kraft bags, 4.97 tons LDPE film, and 6.15 tons supersaks.
