Dinesh Kalra, M.D., FACC, chief of cardiology at the University of Louisville (UofL) Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky, and professor of medicine and radiology at the UofL School of Medicine, will serve as the next chair-elect of the American College of Cardiology Board of Governors, the American College of Cardiology announced Oct. 29. Kalra, who is currently ACC governor for Kentucky, will assume his role in April 2026, following ACC.26 in New Orleans, and will assume the role of BOG Chair from 2027 to 2028 after Renuka Jain, M.D., FACC.

The UofL Health Board of Directors has named Jason Smith, M.D., Ph.D., MCA, FACS, as its new chief executive officer. With his appointment, UofL Health becomes the only physician-led health system in the region. Dr. Smith has been a member of the University of Louisville School of Medicine faculty since 2008, operated as Chief Medical Officer for UofL Health since its inception in November 2019 and has been serving as the system's CEO on an interim basis since June.

More than 200 stroke survivors, caregivers, UofL Health team members and community partners came together for the Third Annual Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Celebration, a night dedicated to honoring strength, recovery and resilience. Amy and Jeromy Hobbs shared their powerful story as keynote speakers. In July 2021, Amy suffered a stroke despite having no risk factors. Thanks to her family’s quick action, she survived. Today, four years later, the couple stands as a reminder that stroke can affect anyone, anytime. In a touching reunion, members of the care team who helped save Amy’s life joined her on stage to celebrate her recovery.
