UofL Health has been designated a GammaTile Center of Excellence (COE) and is among the first in Kentucky to receive this designation. GammaTile is an FDA-cleared, bioabsorbable collagen implant embedded with radiation seeds, designed for patients with operable brain tumors. At UofL Health, GammaTile is offered through the multidisciplinary neuro-oncology team at UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center, UofL Health – UofL Hospital and UofL Physicians – Neurosurgery, part of UofL Health – Brain & Spine Institute.

UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute’s pediatric program has expanded in South Louisville to meet the demand of some of its youngest patients. Operating on the UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital campus since 2016, this new space accommodates more kids, more staff and decrease the wait times for physical, occupational and speech therapy for children from infancy through adolescence. The expansion is made possible by a $500,000 grant from Kosair for Kids.

UofL Health – Heart Hospital, part of UofL Health – Jewish Hospital, has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2025, marking the third year in a row the Heart Hospital has received this award. Heart Hospital is one of only 323 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center recently became the first facility in the United States to offer its patients access to an FDA-approved assay for solid tumor testing. The test, known as Illumina TruSightTM Oncology (TSO) Comprehensive, is FDA-approved and performed on-site at UofL Health’s Next Generation Sequencing Lab. TSO Comprehensive assay essentially scans a patient’s tumor sample for cancer mutations, evaluating both the DNA and RNA of a patient’s tumor to ensure they are matched with the most effective therapies or available clinical trials.

UofL Health – South Hospital proudly announced the completion of its 1,000th cardiac catheterization procedure performed in its state-of-the‑art cath lab. Since opening in April 2024, the lab has provided essential, life‑saving cardiac care to residents of Bullitt County and surrounding regions.

The UofL Health Board named Jason Smith, M.D., Ph.D., UofL Health chief medical officer, as interim CEO. Dr. Smith has served as CMO for UofL Health since its inception in November 2019 and served as CMO for UofL Health – UofL Hospital from 2017 to 2019. He has been a member of the University of Louisville School of Medicine faculty since 2008.
