Job Training

You have at least 4 working days of training with a certified medical scribe trainer prior to independently working with a physician. Additional training is always available on scribe America website with encouragement towards " Continuing scribe education".

You learn a lot of medical terminology in a short amount of time. The training could be better, there is no overview or explanation about the layout of the hospital or what to do if a patient asks certains questions or what the exact role of the other medical staffs' jobs are. So it is very stressful on the scribe when patients ask you questions or need help, and you don't know how to answer or even who you should ask. ScribeAmerica does tests, where if you don't pass high enough, they let you go right there, in the presence of the whole group. I've seen people break down in cry in front of the entire group, so I think there must be a better method in which you train people that doesn't involve humiliation or that amount of stress.

The job training is thorough, and paid. It is a crash course in emergency medicine, and there is a minimum of 40 hours required clinical training with an experienced scribe.

Good basis to get started with the powerpoints and floor training but I believe there should be a longer period of floor training before letting scribes go out on their own to work with doctors

Classroom training was fine, if you can spend 20 plus hours a week studying. They only give you one day between education and quizzes . Did not prepare you for clinic training. Completely thrown in without any directions. They want you to train but don't want to give you opportunity too.

There are 5 classes that need to be taken (I believe they were 2-3 hours each) and involved a daily quiz. You were supposed to have to pass them with a certain grade, but they were not too strict. At the end there was a ~120 question exam, which you do have to strictly pass with a certain grade. I believe it was at least 90% right. The training did an average-subpar job of training you for what the actual job entailed, but I have heard since I completed it (summer 2016) it has improved.

It was unorganized at times.
