Founded by an Expert Veterinarian
In 2018, Dr. George Melillo set out to develop a veterinary space that reimagined pet care— a place for people dedicated to the care of animals to practice in a healthy, happy, sustainable and successful way. Heart and Paw was built as a community of the best professionals in the industry that not only puts animals in the best hands, but also equally values its people.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Melillo understood first-hand the exhausting work schedules and compassion fatigue that can lead to a challenging work environment. Heart and Paw’s empathetic approach gives veterinary care teams the ability to thrive, share, learn, and support each other. Our veterinary-led operations team, including Dr. Melillo as chief veterinary officer, supports our teams of dedicated professionals across more than 28 locations in 10 states…and counting.
At Heart and Paw, you and your pet become part of our family from the moment you walk through our doors.
Heart and Paw Leadership
Each Heart and Paw center works closely with a veterinarian on our operations team to assist with hospital leadership in medicine and business. This can look like helping a Partner Doctor dig into their P&L statement, onboarding new graduates, or scrubbing in to assist in surgeries. Our veterinarian-led team serves as a supportive sanctuary for budding careers and experienced minds alike.
Throughout many years of helping veterinary hospitals achieve their highest potential, we have developed a strong leadership approach at Heart and Paw. Our centers operate under freedom within the framework, meaning our doctors and center leaders are empowered to make decisions with the key support that drives their success.
This ability allows each center to show off their team’s unique skills and personality. At Heart and Paw, we believe that people are at the heart of success, and we are committed to building lasting relationships.
