Pros

Nice company but depending on which group you are in and you will have different experience.

Cons

There is not much I don't like about the company, only the benefit would be very expensive if you want to cover the whole family.

Better paying employer in DC

Pros

Good to employees. One of the better non profit jobs you can get in DC in terms of pay, benefits, opportunities for growth and advancement

Cons

Hard to make academic medicine exciting if not interested. But there are a few different teams so the most you can do is keep your eyes open for opportunities that are of more interest.

Great benefits, but that's about it.

Pros

-It is a job, and the salary was decent. -Top-notch benefits package (no employee contributions for health care and dental plans, the plans themselves are very good with low deductibles--minimal out-of-pocket expenses, AAMC will match your retirement contributions immediately upon hire if you come from another non-profit organization, SmartBenefits for metro/bus). If it wasn't for the benefits package my review would probably only be one star. -High value on work/life balance. Employees are encouraged to take time off. Also, PTO does not need to be used if you come in late or leave early. -Metro accessible

Cons

There are many. Here are the key ones. -Not a relaxing work environment. Everyday I felt stressed out when I didn't need to be. -Many of my assigned tasks/responsibilities seemed counterproductive towards my career development, and were not in line with my expectations of the position based on the interview process. -Managers fuss constantly over mundane details such as wording or font used in emails. -Minor decisions such as re-arranging text on a survey site are constantly over-analyzed and require hours of meetings and discussion. -Management preaches collaboration, however, I was unable to reach out directly to other departments at the AAMC without drawing the ire of my supervisor because I did not coordinate the outreach through them. -There is no trust in other departments. I have sat in meetings where individuals openly berated other departments in front of my team. I shouldn't be performing tasks for other departments because my supervisor doesn't trust them to do a good job. -Little opportunity for career development. It was easy to get moved around on to different projects, but none of them differed from each other greatly enough that I was learning anything useful. -Working here is probably best suited for someone content with doing the same kind of work day in, day out with little variation, and are not interested in furthering their career.
