Pros

The work you do every day is meaningful. As a BI, you have a great deal of autonomy with regards to what you do in home sessions. You get an iPad.

Cons

When you are interviewed, they say that you will get 15-25 hrs/week and after 6 months you can get full time, but at the end of the interview after they have offered you the job, they will inform you that full time hours are NEVER guaranteed. The truth is that it will take you 6 months just to get 2 or 3 clients and most employees don't work over 25hrs, EVER. They do NOT provide BCBA hours for graduate students. There are very few opportunities for growth within the company. The rules and regulations change frequently but they do not appropriately inform the staff of these changes. There is an aberrant lack of effective communication in every aspect. The training is geared towards passing the RBT exam, but it does not prepare BIs for their actual on-the-job duties. They do not pay for all of your travel, only between clients. I have had several clients that are 30 miles away with one-way travel times of up to an hour. Even if there is traffic on your route, and it takes an extra 15 minutes to get there, they only pay you what the "google maps expected travel time" is. HR is a disaster. They loose important documents, like RBT certificates. The system for tracking your work hours is often not accurate, and you have to make sure that your paycheck is accurate. They have a terrible history of not paying their employees. They are not loyal. Even if you have worked at the company for years, they will give hours to new hires instead of their consistent staff. They will give good cases (good meaning lots of consistent hours, such as working at the academy, early intervention cases or ALC) to new hires instead of loyal staff. Additionally, many BIs that have been working at ACES for years are still making the same rate as when they were hired $15/hr, while new hires are making $16.50-$17/hr. Other companies start at $20. ACES does NOT provide you with any toys/books/supplies and they do not pay you back for anything that you buy for your sessions. When you start at ACES, you are excited. After a few months to a year, everyone is cynical. We hate the company, like everyone that works there hates the company. We stay because we love our jobs and its really hard to come to terms with leaving your clients. The culture there is, ugh ACES, yay kids!

As with any growing organization in a dynamic industry, we have experienced growing pains and have undoubtedly made mistakes along the way, but we have learned from our past and pride ourselves in actively upholding to the highest compliance standards in all aspects of our operations. Increased clarity and communication is a shared vision of ours, and we are currently working to launch a HIPAA compliant messaging solution that we hope will allow for even more efficient and effective communication company-wide. The ABA industry is constantly changing and ACES is excited to be at the forefront of this evolution. We will continue to invest in, and work diligently with, our staff to maintain ACES reputation of strong culture and providing tremendous growth opportunities for individuals who have made ABA their life’s work.

Pros

Make your own schedule, flex time is great, PTO and benefits are good, freedom to use clinical judgments and control client progress, opportunities for advancement, great team in the office!! Supervisors access bonus for extra billing and frequent rewards for performance.

Cons

This company does not value lower level employees leading to high turn over- hard to get benefits, no holidays or holiday pay for that matter, hours fluctuate which is expected but little effort is made to help with this from scheduling. Overall the processes in place complicate things rather than simplify (clocking in/out, getting paid, scheduling, reporting processes). The CEU opportunities.
